How long have you been in your industry?4 years
Why did you choose your industry?I chose to be a speaker, coach, and consultant to serve others.
Who are your typical clients? My clients are typically professionals (accountants or lawyers) who are wanting to make equity partner in their firm and they've come to me to help them get over the hump. I also work with professionals and senior leaders who are trying to solve some business problem or finding meaning and purpose in their work.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I enjoy working with clients and seeing them have "a-ha" moments, gain traction, improve in some way, and connect meaning and purpose to their work.
What are common problems you see?I see some coaches and consultants taking advantage of others, simply looking to monetize their business and sell a quick-fix solution or "get rich quick" idea. It's easy to call yourself a coach/consultant and then follow someone else's template for how to make money as a coach/consultant without any substance or desire to serve someone else.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Rather than give advice or tips, I spend alot of my time asking clients questions and listening to their responses to help them see what's important to them. I do recommend certain books, exercise/walking, breath work, meditation and journaling as well.
When is your busy season?I'm busy most of the time either working in or on the business.
What keeps you up at night?Continuing to upgrade my business, moving more tasks off my plate so I can perform higher and higher functions. All of this requires growth and growth is exciting and scary.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I speak on stages as a keynote. I have a podcast where I talk about being a coach and the topics I coach on.
How involved are you in the community?I serve at my church as the head of our safety team, so I'm at our church working most weekends and several nights a week.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Catholic Charities
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? If you can have clients ready to go before you start, that would be great. Or, if you have a reputation in the industry you're coaching and consulting in, and you've built your website, programming, lead magnets, etc. before starting in this business, that would also be a great thing. It will take time to build momentum and clients, so the more you can do before you officially start, the better.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Exercising: I enjoy outdoor endurance events like running, trail running, hiking, swimming and boot camps. I also love to read biographies and non-fiction, and also some fiction.
