Why did you choose your industry?Honestly I chose advertising when I was in college because someone I knew was in the advertising program at CU Boulder and it sounded cool. But as I dug deeper, I realized that the appeal came to me because it's the merging of strategy with creativity - a perfect blend to me and still is to this day. The technology, capabilities and challenges are vastly different now, but those only add to the appeal.
Who are your typical clients?I typically work with clients in 1 of 3 categories - HealthTech, Nonprofit and SMB.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Being able to help customers solve complex business problems intentionally and strategically is my jam.
What are common problems you see?I think there is a huge disconnect between what marketing actually is or does versus what consumers see in the end. People want the tangible thing they see - the social post, the promotional email, the billboard. But they don't necessarily understand that the tangible piece needs to be based on strategy that is directly tied to solving a business challenge. Strategy has to lead everything.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I write blog posts, connect on LinkedIn, am active in various slack communities and attend networking events.
