How long have you been in your industry?30+ years
Why did you choose your industry?I have worked in HR for 30+ years, it found me - by happenstance. I sort of fell into this career and absolutely fell in love with it!
Who are your typical clients? Our clients range from businesses with 4 employees to those with 350 employees across industries like IT, healthcare, engineering, and manufacturing. There’s no “typical” client—what they all have in common is a need for HR support, and that’s where we step in to help.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Seeing the transformation! Walking into a business where the owners are struggling—losing sleep, overwhelmed by employee concerns, and buried under new regulations—and being able to take that worry off their plate is incredibly rewarding. We show them they can stay focused on being expert widget makers, and we’ll handle the HR. We love HR, so you don’t have to!
What are common problems you see?Compliance headaches – Keeping up with regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.Employee relations – Resolving conflicts, managing performance, and ensuring employees feel heard and supported.Recruitment and retention – Finding the right talent and keeping employees engaged in a competitive market.Policy development – Creating clear policies that align with business goals
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Stay proactive with HR! Keep policies updated, maintain clear communication with employees, and don’t ignore small issues—they can escalate quickly. Prioritize compliance to avoid costly penalties, and focus on building a positive workplace culture to boost retention. When in doubt, partner with an expert to reduce risk and free up time for what you do best.
When is your busy season?Days that end with the letter Y :)
What keeps you up at night?Ensuring clients stay compliant and protected from risks keeps me up at night. I worry about businesses delaying HR issues, which can escalate fast. I’m always thinking about ways to help them build positive workplaces while staying ahead of ever-changing regulations.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? We focus on relationship-building, networking, and referrals from satisfied clients. We also attend industry events, collaborate with local leaders, and share expertise through speaking engagements and online content to showcase how we solve HR challenges.
How involved are you in the community?I serve as Board President for PossAbilities Plus and provide pro bono HR services to support their mission. I also mentor individuals pursuing HR careers and participate in local business groups, helping small businesses grow and thrive through guidance and collaboration.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?PossAbilities Plus, Simply Because, and 22UntilNone—each holds a special place for different reasons. PossAbilities Plus (local) empowers individuals with different abilities, Simply Because (local) offers help to those in need, and 22UntilNone (national) supports veterans struggling with mental health.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Master the fundamentals of HR and stay current with ever-changing regulations. Build strong relationships, be adaptable, and genuinely care about helping businesses succeed. Most importantly, listen more than you speak—every business has unique challenges to solve.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I love traveling, especially day trips to explore new places. Baking gluten-free recipes is another passion, along with spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy volunteering and staying active in local community organizations.
