Welcome to Five Minute Salute, I’m your host, Chris Budihas, today segment sponsored by the military Affairs and Veterans Department, City of Jacksonville. Harrison Conners is team scoring. Our veterans with their. But their benefits they earned through their military service. Talking about veterans, we have a local boy here. Not me. Sebastian. Sebastian Colon with Runiuni

Speaker 1
Sebastian, how are you?

Speaker 2
Yes, sir. I’m doing great. Thank for having me.

Speaker 1
Call me Chris. I’m retired now, so. No, man, you’re so you’re originally from everybody else originally. Where are you from? And then what you do in the Navy?

Speaker 2
Yeah. So I’m from Yulee, Florida, and then I joined the Navy in 20 2020. Yeah, I was in there for five years. And. Yeah. And I’m just I just moved back in June to Jacksonville, Florida.

Speaker 1
Welcome home. Yeah. What you do in the Navy.

Speaker 2
So I was a cyber warfare technician okay. Specifically doing cyber defense. So I did, you know, different DoD missions where we would go in analyze the network, right. Make sure the security posture is good, the logs. You know, it sounds a lot cooler than it actually is. It’s a lot of scrolling on a computer.

Speaker 1
Can’t imagine.

Speaker 2
And looking at it, but somebody.

Speaker 1
Is doing it, right? I mean, reality, so somebody told me this and you can confirm tonight, but I know you security clearance and they don’t. But we do. This is the reality of it is like I was told that we’re under cyber attack constantly. Yeah. It gets it’s warfare but in a different domain every single day. So having somebody like you on the frontlines, the in your teammates, that’s kind of important.

Speaker 2
Yeah. Well someone’s got to do it. And now the tools are getting so good right. With AI and everything. So cyber security you know that’s what actually what I do full time. My 9 to 5 right now is, cyber security. Okay. I do, you know, I work with AI in the cloud. So you know, AWS, GCP, Azure, stuff like that.

Speaker 2
I work with, you know, different clients, for the consulting company. Yeah. And outside of them to guide point security. Okay.

Speaker 1
That’s tell my guide point security. What do you guys do?

Speaker 2
Yeah. So it’s a, you know, I like I say it’s not international. It’s, mainly focused nationwide on, okay, you know, cyber security consulting. Right. They work with, like I say, the exact clients, but they work with, like, you know, you know, very high level clients. They go in, they can even go down to, like, you know, what kind of leadership do you need on the go down all the way to like the, you know, OpSec?

Speaker 2
They have engineers who can go directly into, you know, look at your source code and make sure you’re secure there. Yeah. And then I’m working on the cloud team with AI. So like I was saying, we, you know, we go and do analysis on different cloud networks and make sure that that’s important.

Speaker 1
I mean, I think most business owners know this right now. Like when if you don’t have it capability, when it stops working for the day, everybody it just everything ceases to operate, whether that’s if you’re in the, more on the service type, you know, software type of performance as a business, think fintech or health tech. Well, more in the fintech space.

Speaker 1
But if you’re like even a manufacturing facility where you’re making stuff when you’re it goes down, you’re dead. You’re dead in the water. Yeah. So the fact you guys are doing that’s pretty huge. I imagine you guys work with a client to define what their issues are. Then kind of go in there and make sure they’re secure.

Speaker 2
Now. Exactly.

Speaker 1
That’s great. So what was their inspiration for Rooney Rooney. How long you’ve been around.

Speaker 2
Yeah. So the inspiration comes from 2016. Yeah. So the story was I was actually a rapper, writer and producer. Yeah, yeah. Okay. And I was, you know, as a creator, I was always finding it hard to connect with people near me. Yeah, right. I was trying to find other artists to work with, you know, other talent videographers and stuff like that, making content on YouTube.

Speaker 2
And. And there was a guy I feel like there was no platform that you can really do that. And so I had the vision of, okay, a platform where I could just go in and like search up my city and I could see maybe like a map of all the different types of like, artists and media that’s going on.

Speaker 1
And then how cool is that? Yeah. That’s awesome. Yeah.

Speaker 2
So that was the original idea in 2016, right? Just a way to find and network with our talent and people making content near me. And you know, ten years later, I finally built it. It’s, 2026. Right. And it’s it’s live now of renewing Unicom. It’s all free. Right. And you can just simply search up any city and then kind of start to connect with the community.

Speaker 2
It’s really free. Yeah.

Speaker 1
That’s my favorite price. Yeah I love it. No kidding. Well why did you choose to offer this for free?

Speaker 2
So right now it’s just, you know, building up the network, right? Like my competitors. And I want to see my competitors. Right. But, you know, the other platforms like Facebook, Meet Up X, and so like that, you know, it’s they’re all networks. And so your product is only as valuable as the people using it. Yeah. And so right now I care more about just bringing the people in the community and building that, that local support.

Speaker 1
I always found, you know, what you give is what you get because rising tide lifts all boats. So you know that good karma where if you do things good, it will come back to you in spades. That’s huge. Off camera we were briefly talking about Florida State College of Jacksonville. Yeah. What do you want to say about Florida State College Jacksonville?

Speaker 2
Yes. When I was in high school, I was in a dual enrollment course, and I went to J. And I probably wouldn’t be here today without this course.

Speaker 1
But really.

Speaker 2
Yeah, it was a computer science. And at the end of it, it was a year long course, two hours every day. So it was actually my first and second period. No kidding. Yeah. And, you know, at the end of it, they had the professor. It was a great professor. I forget his name, by the way. I wish I remembered his name right now, but, they paid for us to get certified, and only two people from the class passed.

Speaker 2
It was me and one other kid.

Speaker 1
You card.

Speaker 2
And, But I got certified in Java, in my junior year in high school, and I paid for it. And that knowledge is, you know, got me here today to be able to program.

Speaker 1
So it’s kind of foundational. Yeah. That whole experience to include the knowledge. That’s huge. So that’s a big shout out for for State College Jacksonville I remember I was here FCG and there was just like three campuses. Yeah the Kent campus downstairs down downstairs downtown. You had one on the north side. It was very very small then one to our south side.

Speaker 1
Now it’s, it’s exploding. And then what I hear about the quality of education which you just endorse is, is really good. So encourage folks if you’re looking for some opportunities to get educated to pursue a course through for State College in Jacksonville. And they’re not paying us, by the way, their audience. Yeah, yeah. So supporting the.

Speaker 2
Local community.

Speaker 1
That’s great. So so what’s next for Sebastian?

Speaker 2
Yeah I mean just growing networking. I’ve been trying to get the word out. I’m also starting a content creation journey I’m posting every day for. My goal is to do 30 days. I’m on like day 11. Okay. But I just been kind of like, you know, vlogging, trying to make different, you know, little short films and stuff like that.

Speaker 2
Because I think, you know, I’m building something for content creators. And my original vision was to be a content creator. Okay. And so I went through this whole other route, right? Becoming a founder, like really, really focusing on like software engineering and how to build a yeah, I build a product. And so, you know, the future I think looks like me really starting to express myself my story out there.

Speaker 2
Yeah. Doing more interviews like this. Yeah. Hopefully building up the network and and the people who want to use.

Speaker 1
Oh man. Tech is a compliment. I mean, you’re you’re both a scientist and artist, which is awesome. You know, see the light, you see the people that are really, really good on the science side, you’re really not so good on the art, but you kind of get a great blend of each day. So if you can bring that all together to build a community, what you’re doing, I’m, I’m on board.

Speaker 1
I’ll continue to lift you up and promote you. So yeah, especially and I love the fact it takes a, you know, a compliment. I love young people coming here because you’re from here originally, and I made this comment the other day and correct me, I’m wrong is I told a group of older folks I’m an old Gen Xer, so Gen Xers and some baby boomers.

Speaker 1
So we need to build a city that the two younger generations they want to live in, not a city that is built for the older population. We should all enjoy because we all live together in our community. Yeah, I want to see a vibrant Jacksonville downtown and different other parts of the city, so that’s huge. If you were if you were mayor for the day, what would you change in Jacksonville?

Speaker 2
You know, it’s I think it’s so hard to say like there’s nothing specific. Yeah. Because every change you would want to do as a mayor I think is a slow thing. Right. Like you, you start the initiative and it maybe takes you like a year to get there. But one thing I would invest heavily in is public transportation.

Speaker 2
Yeah, I know it’s a little off topic, but like, you know, when I was younger I couldn’t really like afford a car or car insurance. Right. And so like the biggest thing I always wish for is like, I wish I could just travel to where I needed to for free or are not in the city for free, but in a cheaper way than having to go and and buy a car when I was, you know, 15, 16 and, you know, I didn’t really have the money to afford that.

Speaker 1
Well, Sebastien, one more time, how do you how do you find your full time employer? So to talk about them was there was their website Rooney. Rooney was that website. And then help help folks find you on what socials are you on.

Speaker 2
Yeah. Guide point security is, the company I work for, again, an amazing company and great for veterans, too. They do cybersecurity, right? They hire everywhere, around the world. And they’re fully remote, too. They have some office positions. Right. But I work, remote job and, Rooney uni. It’s Rooney Unicom. Okay. It’s. Are you and I, you and i.com.

Speaker 2
And does it explain the name to Rooney? Uni comes from our communities united alumni and the. So the. I took the r from the letter. You know, like from r and then uni out of community. Yeah. And then uni out of United. And that’s how I got Rooney uni. Okay. Because I was trying to name it, I think it was I forget what I was trying to name it, but I can I get a domain name, you know, because like all the domain names were taken up.

Speaker 2
So then I wanted something short and I was like, all right, you know what? I’m just going to do this.

Speaker 1
I’m glad you did it. That’s awesome. And then you’re all on. Imagine all forms of social these days.

Speaker 2
Yeah, I’m on TikTok. And like I said, my platform, my my goal with the platform is to make it easier for creators to connect with other social platforms. Like I’m building it somewhat for myself now. Yeah, I’m experiencing the problem that I’m trying to solve. That’s awesome, the creator.

Speaker 1
But let’s tell you what, we’re going to write you back in a couple months and then tell us, you know, what progress you made. I love that you came. And you know, young local veteran doing great things for not just our community but for our nation. So thanks for your service to the nation. We appreciate what you did.

Speaker 1
Yeah. Thank you for the opportunity and, no, thanks a lot. So Sebastian Coleman, look him up. Impressive. I’ll use the term young man. Impressive, man. So doing a lot of great things out there. Rooney. Rooney. He talked about the company he works for full time, and then content creation. I’m going to check out some of the videos.

Speaker 1
I imagine you’re pretty cool. So, if you want to be a cool kid like me, let’s check out Sebastian online, see our next segment, live A Gratitude.
