What is your “why”? What drives you to do what you do every day?
My “why” is my family. What drives me each day is the desire to build something meaningful, something that reflects the values my family instilled in me. I want to create a life and legacy that my family can be proud of.
What inspires you to keep growing and learning as a leader?
My inspiration to keep growing and learning as a leader begins and ends with my family. My family is not just my motivation — they are my purpose, my grounding, and my greatest source of strength as a leader.
What impact do you hope to leave on your organization or industry?
The impact I hope to have on my company and the design industry is a foundation of artistry, meaning, and possibility leaving a more aesthetically pleasing and uplifting landscape for the next generation of artists to build upon.
Who do you admire in the industry and why?
I admire Jan Hirabayashi, the founder of Broadbased Communications. Jan gave a young college intern from Columbus, Indiana an opportunity to work as a graphic designer at a big city marketing firm. That at the time was not accepting interns.

Welcome back to another episode of Finding Your Frequency, where we highlight those who are creating frequency, creating a buzz, and helping make an impact both here in Jacksonville and beyond. I’m Morgan Yonge, joined today by Philip Luong with Philip Luong Designs. Thank you for being here.
Phil:
Thank you for having me. Yes, I appreciate it.
Morgan:
So tell me about how you help your clients tell their story in marketing and advertising.
Phil:
Well, we like to focus on the client’s story and make it individualized to where they are to set themselves apart from their competitors. And we make it tailored around them, so their story is unique.
Morgan:
Yeah. And so their story really impacts what their branding is going to look like, their marketing. And every industry is different. You work with any and all industries and a wide range of industries.
Phil:
Yeah. Yeah.
Morgan:
Wonderful. With those industries, I know we talked a little bit off-set. You want to help these people elevate their brand. Will you talk to us more about how you guys help do that?
Phil:
Well, we do talk to the clients and make sure we understand their direction of where they’re going with the services they provide. And we like to find out what sets them apart, what individualizes them, so we can tell that story and elevate it to the next level, from a small market mindset to a bigger market, and advertise them, market them to the masses.
Morgan:
Yeah. And I saw in your logo design, you really try to up the aesthetic. That’s what I noticed across the board. It’s taking what they have and just taking it to the next level. So tell me about how you guys do logos and branding. Dive into that. Geek out a little bit with me.
Phil:
So we like to talk to them about their journey, how they got here. Figure out what the details are behind what they do, why they do what they do, and then we put that into the logo, into the branding.
Like we may have some underlying details that aren’t noticeable to everyone, but it’s kind of hidden in the logo design, and it has elements of their own journey, how they got here and where they want to go.
Morgan:
I love that you’re incorporating that across the board.
Phil:
Yeah.
Morgan:
So in every touchpoint of their marketing.
Phil:
Yeah.
Morgan:
That’s fantastic. You started this in 2006, correct?
Phil:
Yeah.
Morgan:
How have you seen everything change in the marketing industry since then, since you’ve been in it for so long?
Phil:
It’s changed tremendously and quickly. AI is being incorporated into everybody’s marketing and their messages.
We use AI as a tool to help us do our job better with tedious, mechanical stuff and the smaller tasks. I should say we don’t use it as a way to enhance the messaging behind it, because we feel like the story is unique toward the client.
Morgan:
Yeah.
Phil:
So we like to use it just as a way to streamline internal production.
Morgan:
Yeah, yeah. Production, manufacturing, and stuff like that. It is so helpful. It’s such a time saver. So that’s awesome that you’re using that to help efficiency, right?
Phil:
Efficiency.
Morgan:
So let’s talk about finding your frequency. You help others find their frequency in their branding, their graphics, web design, all the things. But let’s talk about you. What are some of the things that you do to make yourself successful on a daily basis?
Phil:
Every morning I get up and I’m grateful for being here. So I take the time to reflect on what I’ve accomplished up to this point. Every morning I do that.
I stay healthy. I work out, so I take that time to remember how I got here. So I use that as inspiration.
My family is a big part of my inspiration. It begins and ends with my family. My wife, she’s very supportive and she motivates me, inspires me. My children, I do everything for them.
