How long have you been in your industry?30 years
Why did you choose your industry?I like to say "Where there's a win win, I'm in" - our business helps other businesses be more successful, and if we don't help we don't get paid. That's a true win-win, and I can get behind products that bet on their own success.
Who are your typical clients?Any business with 5 or more W2s will benefit from at least one of our products/services, and even smaller ones could benefit from our marketing and software development services.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I like helping people, but being able to earn a living by doing it. The more I help others, the more money we make - but they almost always make more than us, which I call "Generous capitalism" - where we're more generous with business partners and employees and simply take less for the company.
What are common problems you see?Greedy capitalism is the enemy of fairness. Its a "the investors take all they can" strategy, and its not only based on greed that actually doesn't even make the wealthy happier (happiness = log(income), which means you need a LOT more money at their wealth to get just a tiny bit happier). I think as more companies start to adopt generous capitalism, things will improve for everyone.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? The biggest objection we get is that our products/services sound too good to be true. I actually felt the same way when I first learned about some of them. Its ok to be skeptical, but dig in and learn, and you'll see we have great referrals and many happy clients. We'd love you to be one of them!
When is your busy season?no specific season for us
What keeps you up at night?I sleep well, knowing I'm doing my best to help others during my waking hours. I also follow my own advice, which is "Don't stress, don't rest, just do your best and accept the rest" - So I don't worry too much, I just try hard and accept where I land.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?SEO and word of mouth. We generally prefer authentic word of mouth advertising. I've experiment in paid advertising, but I strongly prefer and see better results from organic.
How involved are you in the community?I host free educational presentations followed by Q&A and discussions each week at Tuesday at 6:45pm US eastern. People can DM their email asking for an invite to our sessions, or can sign up on our meetup which will also tell you the topic: https://www.meetup.com/freethinkerinstitute/?eventOrigin=home_groups_you_organizeWe focus on improving critical thinking skills and helping people learn.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity? The Free Thinker Institute
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Don't start over, join us! We have a large network of great services, and you wouldn't make much more money by starting over than you would by coming to us, since we practice Generous Capitalism, in most cases 80% of the commission right now goes to the rep.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Teaching, Learning, and helping others. And spending time with my amazing family, my two daughters melt my heart every day.
