How long have you been in your industry?5
Why did you choose your industry?I have been a business owner since 2010 but in 2019, shortly before COVID started, 2 of my clients of my boutique PR, Business Development and Marketig Firm, failed to pay me the $75,000 they owed me. I therefore pivoted into Life Insurance out of desperation. Five years later I am a Wealth Strategist doing this out of INSPIRATION FOR ALL OF THE LIVES I AM TRANSFORMING.
Who are your typical clients?Any human in front of me will benefit from doing Expert Financial Analysis in which we, using proprietary software good old-fashioned relevant questions, help them know where they are, where they want to be, & how to get there with less time, energy and $$ spent. My niches are immigrants, entrepreneurs/small business owners & people wanting to plana plush retirement & leave generational wealth.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Life insurance/annuities industry is very misunderstood, even disliked by many people due to misinformation, deceptive marketing by companies & individuals with competing services. Our ignorance is exacerbated by fact that talking about money, death & illness, not to mention making dreams a reality are taboo topics of conversation. This is HUGE opportunity for us in safest, most lucrative industry
What are common problems you see?1) Ignorance/inexperience of agents with little experience who choose the wrong companies, meaning those who give "advice" based on transactions that benefit the agent and the IMO first. 2) Ignorance/inexperience of most people who are not used to having serious conversations about their financial situation and financial future 3) Lack of belief that dreams or financial independence are possible
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Know that it is NEVER too early or too late to take control of your financial life by educating yourself, and finding the right coach/strategist with the right mindset, the right company with integrity, transparency, large selection of options and financial service partners and ability to support you. Believe that you can be wealthy or at least financially independent if wealth does not interest you. But YOU have to make a strategy and implement it. Help is available for free if you find the right guide to hold your hand through your journey.
When is your busy season?Every day, every month is business season.
What keeps you up at night? The crisis our country is going through at the moment. Otherwise, my business is great and I sleep like a baby!
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Number one way to market myself is through building and strengthening trusted relationships and and keeping clients happy. I then actively ask for referrals which is the lifeblood of my prospecting. I am supremely focused on relationship and influencer market to then create a ripple effect out and downward.
How involved are you in the community?I am a very active political and civic activist in local, state and national politics, I am the host of a local TV program done in English and then Portuguese: "The Best of Both Worlds/O Melhor de Dois Mundos", and I volunteer at the Food Pantry. I lived in 3 foreign countries and speak 5 languages, so I am also a passionate advocate for immigrants who have come here for their American Dream.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity? The Grace Center in Gloucester, MA where I live. They provide a place with free breakfast & lunch, support services, games, art supplies, and all kinds of things to keep homeless people or any people who don't have a place to go before the shelter opens at 4pm. It is a life changing place in which every person receives dignity, grace and hope.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Don't try to do this business alone. Choose an IMO that has great compensation, that give you 100% ownership of your business, meaning your book of business and your agency team. Make sure they have a diverse, inclusive culture focused on the clients and the agents, not on themselves and a few superstar leaders. Don't be afraid to change as often as you need till you find the right one.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Being with my husband and our two dogs and our adult children, traveling, reading/audiobooks, and gardening. I am a bad gardener but I love to do my part under someone else's guidance.
