How long have you been in your industry?15 years
Why did you choose your industry?I chose healthcare and nonprofit work to make a meaningful impact. Too many families facing a disease diagnosis struggle with high out-of-pocket costs, even with insurance. TAF provides financial assistance to people living with life-changing diseases so they can access treatment without financial stress. We also raise awareness about these challenges, ensuring more people understand the need for support. Knowing we’re making a real difference in patients’ lives drives me every day.
Who are your typical clients? The Assistance Fund (TAF) is an independent charitable patient assistance organization that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs by providing financial assistance for their copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, and other health-related expenses.
What do you like best about being in this industry?TAF manages nearly 100 disease programs, each of which covers all FDA-approved treatment for the disease named in the program. Since 2009, TAF has helped over 210,000 people access critical treatment for life-threatening, chronic, and rare diseases. I love that I have the privilege to lead an organization that helps thousands of people access treatment to manage a life-changing disease.
What are common problems you see?One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is the financial burden on underinsured patients. Even with insurance, high out-of-pocket costs force many to choose between their medication and basic necessities. Navigating the healthcare system is another barrier, especially for those with rare diseases who struggle to find specialists or financial assistance.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?TAF grows by spreading awareness of the financial barriers patients face and the impact of our support. Through storytelling, advocacy, and partnerships, we highlight the patient experience. We engage donors through campaigns that show how their contributions change lives, increasing support to expand our disease programs and help more underinsured patients access critical treatment.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Jacksonville Humane Society
