How long have you been in your industry?27 Years
Why did you choose your industry? It was an opportunity to create what I wanted for my life. I get to work with students - athletes, as well as all students at every level from K through college and help them to learn, risk and grow into productive men and women. And at the same time I get to work with professional athletes and corporate professionals at every level to live the 1% better every day philosophy. As an author, mentor, and coach I get to build the next generation while also influencing the older generation.
Who are your typical clients?Students as young as 8 to corporate professionals. We are all athletes playing the greatest game of all; life.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Every day it's different. The people and work constantly evolves. Each day I get to work with student athletes, speak for corporations, organizations, or schools or focus on my writing. And on some day I get to do all of those things on the same day.
What are common problems you see?Making sure individuals are receiving the best information so they can make the best decisions for their lives. I am a no fluff individual and speak and teach by making the complex simple.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Focus on getting 1% better each day and don't get ahead of yourself. Always be an advocate for your life and Every Day Is Game Day.
When is your busy season?Because of the nature and structure of my business, i can't outwork the work I have. It's a great opportunity to have.
What keeps you up at night?Helping kids to work through social anxiety and always feeling that they are behind. The mental health crisis in kids is definitely my biggest concern.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? My biggest marketing tool has always been word of mouth. I focus on doing what I do better than anyone else and one thing leads to another. I also have a social media presence.
How involved are you in the community?I mentor students and young adults.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Susan Komen Breast Cancer Research
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Listen well and always be open to the possibilities that each day brings. Never stop learning, risking and growing. Outlast the adversity.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Reading, fishing, traveling, and golfing.
