James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith, where we highlight people in the community that are really living out their faith. I’m your host, James Fenimore, and today we’ve got two very special guests for you.

Joining me, we have Lauren Miller and Jason Rodriguez. Guys, how are you doing?

Lauren/Jason:
Doing great.
Doing great. Thank you for having us on.

James:
Absolutely. Thank you so much for joining me.

Lauren, we’re going to start with you. We start the show with one simple question. How are you living your faith?

Lauren:
Yeah, I love that question.

And to be honest with you, what comes up for me when I think about that is God is God, and I am not.

And so for me, that’s kind of been an experience.

I think, you know, I’m in adult education, executive coaching, stress management.

But that aside, I really feel that my greatest training was in 2006 when I was diagnosed with advanced cancer and given five years to live while going through a divorce with three young kids.

The one thing I’ve learned is God never wastes suffering.

And so that God is God and I am not truly coming through the archway of really losing my hair, brows, marriage, eyebrows, eyelashes.

It’s amazing how much that actually is a part of our identity, right?

And we give so much power to the mirror to define us, when in reality, our true identity is in Christ alone.

And so God is God, and I am not.

And that’s led to the foundation for all of the projects that he’s called me into to be able to glorify him.

James:
That’s incredible.

And I was told there would be no math. There’s never math on this show.

But if I do my math correctly, we’re a little past five years.

So all glory to God.

Oh my gosh, that’s incredible. Praise God.

All right Jason, you know what’s coming. There’s no surprises.

How are you living your faith?

Jason:
Renewing my mind every day and in gratitude.

I live my life as a quest and an adventure.

And I try to teach the students I have, the people I mentor, and the people I coach that God is a God of adventure and a God of gratitude.

And to live in the moment.

He rewards, if you look time and time again in the Bible, he rewards those who take that step of faith and adventure.

Moses stepped onto the mountain, turning the path.

You have the disciples, Matthew leaving his job completely as a tax collector, his rich high life to follow Jesus.

So getting people to focus on that and find their identity in Christ, adventure and in gratitude.

That’s how I live my life.

Through showing those actions in my own life and helping others replicate that in their own.

James:
That’s a wonderful calling.

And it’s amazing how when we live out our faith through others, helping others, helping them live their faith, how much closer it brings us to God, right?

And I’d love for you both to speak about that.

Let’s start with you, Jason.

Jason:
I’ve seen people come to Christ who never knew that I was a Christian.

One of the professions I’ve been in is public teaching in the public schools, and can’t really be very vocal about your faith in that sphere of business.

So living my life differently and having my students come back saying, I figured out that you were living your life in Christ and became a Christian because of how you taught me and how you invested in me.

My coaching is definitely upfront.

You’re going to hear about God throughout the whole thing.

And that investment of time and energy and getting into the word and how the word is easy to live today is one of the main focuses of just building into people.

It’s not hard.

Jesus said it. A child can understand it.

And sometimes I think we just need to sit back and remember that the yoke is easy, the burden is light.

And I try to explain that not only in my teaching methodologies but also in my podcast that I run called The Parliament Raven.

So just bringing forth the Lord in an easy way that people can understand rather than a message or a list of points.

Something that’s more applicable is how I do things.

James:
That’s great.

And Lauren, you clearly have a wonderful testimony.

But I know sometimes people love to go to the testimony, but you’re clearly just doing it every day also.

And I think that’s such a powerful testimony that sometimes gets overlooked.

Because everybody loves a good story.

But for you to also just be constantly living out your faith and turning to God, I think is really beautiful.

How do you use your testimony but also show that day to day faith to God to help other people on their journey?

Lauren:
Yeah, that’s an excellent question and I appreciate that.

You can’t give out what you haven’t mastered within.

And so as I mentioned, my greatest training, and I’ve been doing this work for over 25 years, came through the archway of suffering.

I’m a big fan of education.

I started out as an elementary school teacher and then went back and got my master’s in adult education, human resources development, and then studied neuroscience and stress management techniques.

It’s one of those things that God is constantly re-enrolling me in Earth school classes.

I think I passed it and then Shazam, I’m re-enrolled in another one of the Earth school classes.

Whether it be patience, compassion, forgiveness, whatever it is.

Our podcast Edge God In is all about edging God into the human experience to champion our human potential in Christ.

We might have the best intentions when we wake up in the morning until we run into a human being and God’s like, we’re still working on that character trait.

And it’s really going into the trenches and looking to the right and to the left and seeing who God has entrusted to your care.

To be able to remind them of what their soul always knows, that God is sovereign and he provides regardless.

During the two years of chemo, radiation, surgeries, I had 14 surgeries, had to graft my back onto my front, all the setbacks.

God is God and he is sovereign and he provides.

Sometimes it’s the fourth watch of the night, and you’re like, where are you God?

And then all of a sudden it’s dark and then the light crashes the darkness and Jesus shows up.

Amen.

It’s amazing. Truly amazing journey.

James:
Amen.
