What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?Stretching into new markets to maintain steady growth.

What technologies are having the biggest impact on IT right now? AI is sweeping through all aspects of business, including IT Infrastructure.

How do you ensure cybersecurity and data protection across systems? Blackbox builds the Infrastructure. Blackbox utilizes the latest in cybersecurity methods and technologies to protect that infrastructure.

What trends are driving digital transformation? AI is impacting how systems are designed and implemented. These new systems are more automated and replacing manual processes. Add to that, all of the data required .to run them must be stored in a digital format (cloud).

How are you managing cloud infrastructure and scalability? Our entire department is cloud based apps and files. I work remote, so cloud infrastructure is the backbone of my work ecosystem.

What are the key skills in demand for IT professionals today? Believe it or not, it’s not the engineers, developers and designers. It is the field level technicians, those who still pull the cable, terminate and test the fiber, data jacks and wireless access points. I am sitting with plenty of silver haired (no pun intended) people doing commissioning and looking around asking “Where are the kids”? AI will eliminate many of the desk jobs, but it will not physically install the infrastructure (yet). We need installers.

How do you stay current in such a rapidly evolving field? I rely heavily on my LinkedIn network to provide guidance and podcasts/seminars to stay current on standards and practices. The infrastructure program I am wrapping up now will be obsolete in 5-10 years. The next iteration of improvements will have more wireless components, eliminating the need for much of the copper wiring we just installed.

What’s your approach to innovation and problem-solving in IT? I have spent my entire professional career out on the leading edge of technology. From serving aboard submarines in the U.S. Navy to making computer chips and building data centers. I know everything is always, rapidly changing. The details regarding how well my teams work together determines our success more than any technological advancements could. I lean on that team to combine our collective insights and solve any challenges we face. My motto, is “I’ve seen and done just about everything”.
