About Human Resources, Made EasyHuman Resources, Made Easy is a fractional HR consultancy. We act as the human resources department for small- to mid-sized companies that either don't have an HR department or are thin in that area. We focus mainly on compliance issues, e.g., harassment, discrimination, and employee classification. We're the go-to resource in a pinch when something goes wrong in employee-employer relationships...and even employee-employee relationships. We also provide HR audits, I-9 audits, employee classification audits, handbook reviews, and custom handbook creation services, as well as some tailored services.
What differentiates you from the competition?Unlike most of my competition, I have undergone (and survived) federal HR audits, which is where I learned to do what I do in helping others. I know what the auditors are looking for, and I can get businesses audit-ready.
What are your top selling services or products that your company offers?Right now? I-9 audits. With ICE looking at small businesses for illegal workers, my clients are clamoring for this service.
If you had one message to get across to future customers, what would it be?Don't try to do HR by yourself. It's too complicated and changes up too frequently for a professional in another industry to keep up with. Always budget the extra few hundred bucks to keep someone on call.
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?My biggest marketing challenge is getting small business owners to understand that AI is not the answer they need regarding legal issues. AI makes things up, and owners don't know what they don't know about employment law.

How is HR evolving in response to hybrid and remote work?By offering fractional services, HR for small businesses can be nearly 100 percent remote. Small businesses can save thousands of dollars each year by relying on fractional services rather than hiring a full-time or part-time HR person for on-site work.

What are your strategies for attracting and retaining top talent?I don’t have employees.

How do you foster an inclusive and equitable workplace culture?I don’t have employees.

What role does HR play in leadership development?HR helps to develop leaders’ soft skills, e.g., communication and leadership, as well as their technical skills, e.g., employment law knowledge and practice. Leaders need both.

How do you measure employee engagement and satisfaction?I don’t have employees.

What challenges do HR professionals face in today’s environment? The biggest challenge, outside of leaders not knowing employment law, is the reliance on AI to answer legal questions. AI makes things up, and leaders don’t know what they don’t know, so they won’t know when the answer they get is false. They also don’t take the time to research, and for some reason, think it’s too expensive to call in a professional, whether a fractional HR person or an employment lawyer. It costs much less to call in one of us than it does to go to court.

What advice do you have for someone starting a career in HR?Soft skills are still the key to success in HR. Develop them. Listen more than you speak. Follow up and follow through. Always be learning in every aspect of the job. Help other HR people by being a resource, writing, and speaking on HR.
