Sherry McClurkin, M.S.
- Industry: Consulting / Coaching
What is your approach to helping clients identify and solve key challenges? I developed the R.E.N.E.W.(TM) Healing Method. It’s Holistic, Step-by-Step, Neuroscience- & Trauma-based, and Christ-infused. The goal is Healing Emotional Blocks & Shifting Unhelpful Patterns to allow the client for Live Renewed & Empowered. It’s a 5-step process that meets clients where they are; I follow it with them, and teach them to also use the method on their own.
How do you tailor your coaching or consulting style to different industries? Know the audience, read the room. Be prepared to shift gears. Ask many questions beforehand to prepare and gain insight into the audience.
What are the most common misconceptions about consulting? That we’re all the same. That we’ll do the work for you. That having a consultant or a Coach is what it takes to fix the problems. No, the client must put in the work. We only guide, suggest, recommend, give a structure. And each of us has our own way of doing things, which will mesh with some clients and not others.
How do you measure the success of your client engagements? “aha” moments .. that they see and get they’ve learned something that changes them.
What trends are influencing the future of consulting and coaching? Too many come into this unprepared, not having depth, yet presenting themselves as knowing more and having more skill than they actually do. This not only is not helpful to their clients, it also besmirches the industry as a whole.
What’s the most rewarding part of your work? The “aha” moments, when the audience responds with that bright-eyed moment of clarity. I then know that I’ve made a difference and impacted a life in a healthy, positive, uplifting way.
What skills do you think are essential for future consultants or coaches? Their own self-awareness. You must do your own emotional and relational growth. No matter what type of consulting/coaching you do, you will run into others’ emotions, limiting self-beliefs, and more. Do your work so you can compassionately respond, not react, do what comes before you. And know your limits; stay in the areas where you do have expertise.
