How long have you been in your industry?10
Why did you choose your industry?I chose the coaching and consulting industry because it’s where my passion for leadership, learning, and helping others thrive comes to life. My journey as an expeditionary leader gave me firsthand insight into the challenges leaders face and inspired me to create meaningful solutions through coaching and development.Founding Center Point Leadership Development was a way to bring together my experiences, research, and expertise in leadership to help leaders, executives, and teams reach their full potential. I’m driven by a love for continuous learning and a strong desire to serve others, particularly Veterans and entrepreneurs. Coaching gives me the opportunity to empower people to lead with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
Who are your typical clients? My typical clients include senior executives, emerging leaders, and business owners who are seeking to elevate their leadership effectiveness, navigate complex challenges, and develop their teams. These are usually people at the "growth" stage of the organizational lifecycle and are typically growth-oriented individuals and organizations that value learning, development, and strategic thinking. They are likely seeking guidance on fostering emotional intelligence, strengthening leadership presence, and building high-performing cultures aligned with purpose and values.
What do you like best about being in this industry? What I love most about being in this industry is seeing the transformation that happens when leaders unlock their full potential. There's something incredibly fulfilling about helping someone gain clarity, build confidence, and lead with purpose. Whether it's guiding an executive through a tough decision, helping a Veteran transition into a successful leadership role, or supporting an entrepreneur in shaping and growing their business, I get to witness growth and positive change firsthand.I thrive on the deep, meaningful conversations that coaching provides and the opportunity to continually learn from the leaders I work with. Being able to make a lasting impact on both individuals and their organizations is what fuels my passion for this work every day.
What are common problems you see? Some of the common problems I see in the coaching and leadership development industry include:#1. Surface-Level Solutions: Too many leadership programs focus on quick fixes rather than meaningful, sustained growth. Real transformation requires a deeper focus on mindset, emotional intelligence, and long-term development.#2. Lack of Personalization: Leaders are often given cookie-cutter advice that doesn't account for their unique challenges, strengths, and organizational contexts.#3. Misalignment Between Leadership and Culture: Many organizations fail to align leadership behaviors with their company values and desired culture, creating a disconnect that hampers growth and engagement.#4. Overemphasis on Short-Term Goals: Leaders can become hyper-focused on immediate performance outcomes, neglecting the long-term development of themselves and their teams.#5. Leadership Burnout: Many leaders push themselves to the brink without prioritizing their own well-being, which undermines their effectiveness and personal satisfaction.#6. Veteran and Entrepreneur Challenges: Veterans transitioning into private-sector leadership roles often struggle to adapt without the right support. Similarly, entrepreneurs frequently need help navigating the complexities of growing a business while developing their own leadership capabilities.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Give yourself the permission to lead.
When is your busy season?February thru July and then again September thru November.
What keeps you up at night?Professionally, what keeps me up at night is thinking about how to make a deeper, lasting impact on the leaders I coach and the organizations I serve.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Building Authentic Relationships: I prioritize meaningful connections through networking, speaking engagements, and leadership development events. I aim to be a trusted resource rather than just a service provider.Leveraging Thought Leadership: Sharing insights through LinkedIn posts, articles, and my book Permission to Lead helps position me as an authority on leadership development and coaching.Personal Branding: I'm in the process of unifying Center Point Leadership Development, my executive coaching, and speaking engagements under a cohesive brand that reflects my expertise and passion for leadership.Client Success Stories: I highlight client transformations and the value they've gained through coaching (with permission) to demonstrate my impact.Targeted Outreach: I engage with Veterans, entrepreneurs, and executive leaders who are likely to benefit from my experience and unique approach. This often starts with a LinkedIn connection followed by a brief, meaningful phone conversation.Strategic Partnerships: I collaborate with HR leaders and other development professionals to deliver coaching and leadership solutions tailored to their organizations.Referrals and Testimonials: A strong word-of-mouth network has been a critical part of my growth. Satisfied clients often refer new leaders to work with me.
How involved are you in the community?I'm activley involved with the local Chamber of Commerce, Key City Rotary Club, the American Legion, and sit on the boards of a couple of Non-Profits including the Fort Detrick Alliance. And in every one of those instances, I am giving back my time, treasure, and talents to make the world around me a little bit better.
