How long have you been in your industry?31 years
Why did you choose your industry?I have been in sales, sales leadership and revenue enablement leadership across technology companies for the last 30+ years. I have been specializing in pre-IPO high growth VC backed companies for the last 12 years. I saw a need for fractional revenue enablement strategic help for technology startups as they worked to grow from the founder led series A stage to the scale up growth stage around their series B stage. These companies struggle with similar revenue generation challenges.
Who are your typical clients? Most of my clients are SaaS technology companies with revenues between $8-15 m looking to break the $20m a year mark in ARR.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I enjoy the fast pace and ever changing nature of the problems that these companies are looking to solve.
What are common problems you see?Often times the intimate revenue generation programs that worked to grow the first customer base doesn't work when companies look to scale and the founding team is no long hands on day to day with prospects. Companies at this stage need to put best practice systems and structures in place to bring in good talent and help them achieve extraordinary results.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Your business is unique but many of the problems you face are not. To solve them you can either overhire full time seasoned expertise, under hire inexperienced raw talent or partner with an experienced fractional expert to get the level of expertise you need at a cost level that is appropriate for the stage of company you are at.
When is your busy season? No real seasonality to this business
What keeps you up at night? The speed that all of have to be aware of and adapt to AI practices in our businesses.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? My business has grown through a strong referral network of doing good work, creating solid results and being referred forward by the leaders and investors of the companies we have helped.
How involved are you in the community?I have been on the board of the children's cancer foundation for the last 20 years, I am on the international board of the Revenue Enablement society and help found the Seattle chapter of this professional peer group 10 years ago as well as a member of the VFW having served in combat in Iraq during the first Gulf War.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Candlelighters Children's Cancer Foundation of Western Washington
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Start building a network of senior contacts you can tap into at least a year before you chose to start your own venture.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I love to travel and hike around beautiful Washington state with my wife Sharon and husky Loki
