How long have you been in your industry?25 years
Why did you choose your industry? After graduating from high school, I lost the opportunity to continue playing sports at the next level, which left me directionless. One of my former baseball coaches recommended the UNF Building Construction Management program and I subsequently developed a strong passion for the industry. Since 1999, i have been activity working in construction industry.
Who are your typical clients? My ideal client would be a developer/investor who has completed developer responsible. The clients I prefer to work with are investors who understand their limitations and engage Ronin to perform the required development, hire design professionals, and allows us to build. This enables the system to function efficiently.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Every project has its own unique challenges, and they are never identical. Even if you have constructed the identical house multiple times, each one still presents different issues. I take pleasure in solving these problems. I also enjoy assisting people and investors in achieving their dreams, whether through home ownership or investment properties.
What are common problems you see?A key issue in the construction industry is that obtaining a contractor's license is too easy. While there are basic requirements, the state lacks thorough background checks. This allows inexperienced individuals to get licensed without understanding common construction practices. A project meant to take 6 months should extend to 2 years.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Good, licensed contractors remain current with industry trends and technological advancement, enabling them to offer similar products at reduced costs. Ronin attends the International Builders Showcase annually to stay informed.
When is your busy season?Year round
What keeps you up at night? If I have let my clients down.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? Our current strategy involves collaborating with investors to develop new properties. The advantage of new construction is the reduction in both insurance and capital expenditure. Investors have the option to pay for extended warranties on these new properties.
How involved are you in the community?I am engaged with the Florida Avengers, Friends of the NRA, The Father's Heart (which aids in feeding approximately 6000 low-income families each month) and serve on the building committee within my church. Additionally, I endeavor to mentor young individuals and small business owners. I also participate in discussions about my religious beliefs, which guides my approach to life.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?I am involved with the Florida Avengers (female tackle football conference), Friends of the NRA (raise money for youth firearm education, youth sporting shoots. Grants goes to JROTC and Boy Scouts) and The Father's Heart (which feeds 6000 needed family's a month)
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Do Not!!! Just kidding, instead of focusing on distractions, concentrate on developing a robust business plan and ensuring you have a solid client base. Starting your own business often appears easier than it is. If the stability of receiving a regular paycheck is crucial for you, it may be better not to embark on entrepreneurship. Additionally, seeking guidance from a mentor.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I focus mainly on my business ventures and charitable work. When time permits, I enjoy watching TV and I consider myself a 1990's movie bluff.
