How long have you been in your industry?5 years
Why did you choose your industry?My industry is the emerging tech industry and it was a natural fit after almost 28 years combined active duty and federal civil service to the U.S. Air Force. I wrote the Department of Defense's domestic use of unmanned aircraft system (UAS) policy in 2015 and that sparked a passion for drones and all things emerging tech. My business includes consulting, content creation (media) and education.
Who are your typical clients?Start ups, established companies looking for visibility or to release a new product or service and foreign companies seeking to do business in the U.S. - all emerging tech.
What do you like best about being in this industry?It's constantly changing and evolving!
What are common problems you see?Regulations do not keep pace with technology.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Use multiple platforms and modalities to get the word out about what you are doing.
When is your busy season?Fall - it's a high volume conference season.
What keeps you up at night?That companies will not survive while they wait for the regulations they need to scale their business models.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?LinkedIn primarily and physical presence at conferences and expos.
How involved are you in the community?I help promote their efforts.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Women And Drones
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?If you have a great idea see if someone else is already doing it first. If not, figure out fast who you need to partner with to provide holistic solutions.
