How long have you been in your industry?4 years
Why did you choose your industry?I love personal finance and investing. I have always had a deep interest in the topic, and I am particularly intrigued with how the softer sides of money intersect with the numbers in a family's situation.
Who are your typical clients?Veterans, between 30 and 50, many of whom own a business or want to own a business. I have a group of pre-retiree and retiree clients as well that are 50+ and need to optimize their investments to minimize their tax bill in retirement.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love that I get to help people with things that truly make a deep impact to them. I get to know my clients as well as anyone in their life and get to connect with them on a much deeper level than just the 1s and 0s. I also love how generous the industry is, other advisors have been so welcoming and willing to share their expertise.
What are common problems you see?Common problem I see with clients is that they don't discuss money in a healthy way with their spouse. I also think across the board there is a lack of intentionality with their money and investing. Many people are saving and saving, but they never stop to think about what that all of that saving is truly for.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Spend less than you make and invest the difference!
When is your busy season?January through April, October and November.
What keeps you up at night?Making sure I am delivering a top notch level of service to my clients at all times.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I have a podcast, I post once in a while on social media, and I try to serve my clients really well to be naturally introduced to friends and family.
How involved are you in the community?I coach high school hockey at Lewis Palmer High School here in Monument, Colorado.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Donovan and Bank Foundation
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Give yourself 3 solid years of runway to let you firm have time to breathe and work.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Reading, walking, working out, doing house chores and yard work.
