How long have you been in your industry?25
Why did you choose your industry? As a Veteran, I began flying drones during my military career and saw their immense potential. After retiring, I wanted to continue serving with intention—capturing powerful stories, moments, and data through drone and ground-level videography. That’s how Hummingbird Drones was born: to Fly with Purpose.
Who are your typical clients? We work with real estate agents, construction firms, event organizers, and small businesses. We also support veterans and nonprofit groups who want to document and share their stories with impact. Additionally, we subcontract with government agencies.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love how each project is unique. From construction site documentation to capturing the emotion of an event to rendering aid in the time of disaster, every flight is a chance to see the world from a new angle and to Fly with Purpose.
What are common problems you see? Many drone operators focus only on the tech and overlook storytelling. Clients often get footage with no clear message. Also, safety and regulatory compliance are sometimes ignored. Hummingbird Drones always fly with safety, integrity, and purpose.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Know your vision and communicate it. The right drone partner should listen, follow safety protocols, and deliver more than pretty shots—they should deliver meaning. Ask about FAA certification, insurance, and editing services.
When is your busy season?Spring through fall is busiest—real estate listings, outdoor events, and construction milestones peak then. But with Florida’s weather, we are available year-round.
What keeps you up at night?Scaling the business without losing the mission. Every client deserves our best, and I’m committed to keeping quality high while expanding our reach. We never compromise when we Fly.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? We grow through word-of-mouth, strong community connections, and sharing our work on social media. Our brand is built on trust, precision, and authenticity. As a veteran-owned business, every job is an opportunity to Fly with Purpose and serve with pride.
How involved are you in the community? We support nonprofits by capturing events that raise awareness and funding for their missions. We also train first responders in drone operations to enhance emergency response. As a veteran-owned business, community service is at our core.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Organizations that serve and support veterans as their core missions are the ones we appreciate the most.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Master the craft, not just the tech. Learn FAA regulations, invest in quality equipment, and prioritize safety. But most importantly, understand storytelling—clients want more than footage, they want meaning. Build trust, stay consistent, and let your work speak for itself.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I enjoy spending time with loved ones visiting the beach, traveling, and catching a good movie. These moments help me recharge and stay creative.
