Why did you choose your industry?I am part of a machine tool building family that spans 5 generations. I entered the machine tool business in 1979 and fell in love with it and made it my career
Who are your typical clients?Aerospace, Department of Defense, Construction Equipment OEMs, Rocket Manufacturers, Automotive & Job Shops
What do you like best about being in this industry?The innovation and the ability to develop, manufacture and service products that are literally change the world we live in. The produces services and digital solutions that we provide increases efficiency, reduces scrap, helps keep us safe, and protects our environment
What are common problems you see?With the renaissance we're currently experiencing in manufacturing, strongly influenced by the massive reshoring efforts, the biggest challenge we are all facing is recruiting talented employees and investing in workforce development
What advice/tips do you have for clients?I believe the success of manufacturing will be directly proportionate to the strength and diversity of the strategic partnerships they can forge. The days of going it alone are gone. 4+ decades of offshoring and downsizing has ended that forever. All of us working together is stronger, smarter and wiser than one of us working alone. We must build strong and diverse strategic partnerships if we are going to be a leader in our industry.
When is your busy season?The busy season is typically in Q4
What keeps you up at night?Retaining existing employees, recruiting new and loyal employees and workforce development in general. The talent isn't being developed in the HS & technical colleges that are a direct "plug in" to our machine tool business needs. The classes are great hybrid courses but not specificto machine t
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?We have a corporate MarCom team who leverages our website, distribution channels and their resources and our social media outlets. We attend trade shows and participate in industry specific associations.
How involved are you in the community?I participate in local HS/vocational programs & donated a CNC lathe to the Butler Tech precision machining program. I work with Gateway Community & Technical College to help steer the curriculum to align with industry needs. My wife & I support Life Forward and City Gospel Mission in Cincinnati Ohio. These institutions lend a helping hand to single mothers & families who have fallen on hard times
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Life Forward, City Gospel Mission, Saint Jude's Hospital
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?There has never been a better time to be in Manufacturing. Manufacturing is leading the renaissance that is occurring in the US. The factories of today are not the factories of yesteryear. They are clean & & equipped with some of the most advanced digital and Ai tools in the industry. We are innovating new solutions for energy, EV development, rocket technology, Ai, automation & digitization!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I enjoy restoring and working on antique and muscle cars. I am learning to be a blacksmith so I can teach the craft to my grandsons and to the kids in our community. My wife and I support our 4 grandsons in all of their activities, including reading books so we can discuss the teaching moments and life experiences that they provide.
