How long have you been in your industry?18
Why did you choose your industry?Clean transportation project development allows me to combine my education and experience in energy and environmental science with my childhood passion for any big machine with an engine - trucks, trains, boats, planes, etc.
Who are your typical clients? Our clients run the gamut from trucking fleets and equipment manufacturers to technology suppliers and government agencies.
What do you like best about being in this industry? Our company creates tangible, measurable change - the opportunity to effectively improve public health and advance innovation is what keeps me coming back.
What are common problems you see?Innovation is the problem and the solution - that's no different than a lot of other industries of course, but whenever you're dealing with innovative solutions, you often have to break new ground and figure out new methods. That can create challenges when organizing and engaging with stakeholders, particularly with those folks who may not be experienced in clean transportation projects.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? It's always important to recognize the value of denial. Whether that comes in the form of losing a grant application or failing to convert a business development lead into a contract, there will always be failure. The opportunity is to recognize the value in those failures, rather than just blowing through them. Understanding why the failure occurred, what led to it, and opportunities for how the outcome could have turned out differently.
When is your busy season? When was the wheel invented? The year before that.
What keeps you up at night?Missed opportunities. We provide such a valuable set of services, and I hate to see when I can't capitalize on an opportunity to engage a new audience.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Thought leadership, events, and social presence. I have really focused on organic growth through relationship development. That, for me, allows our business to develop upon bases that are most important to me - culture, trust, and candor.
How involved are you in the community?Board member at NamaStay Sober, a Boston-based non-profit that's dedicated to supporting those in addiction recovery find active outlets and social engagements
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?NamaStay Sober
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Learn how to write and craft an effective argument
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Legos with my kids and playing golf
