How long have you been in your industry?12 years
Why did you choose your industry?I come from a publishing background, initially wanting to assist authors with their works. Having spent several years in that industry, I'd evolved my perspective and landed a job in hard news at MSNBC. Having worked for the booking department and with international clients and guests, the need for public relations and marketing was apparent. There was a major gap to fill, and I needed to come to the public's rescue. At that point, I'd moved on the Verizon then going it alone.
Who are your typical clients?Small business owners, local businesses in the tri-state area, and authors. Many of those in the LGBTQ+ community are my main concern, assuring their voices are heard and properly shared on social platforms.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I adore connecting with people. I want to assure I'm always approachable and set people's minds at ease from our very first meeting. I also love hearing their stories.
What are common problems you see?People not believing in the power and connection of social media; that's still a very big issue. Marketing is often mislabeled as advertising as well, and that's just not true. If you don't have at least one social media profile, essentially, you don't exist.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Always be creating, stop being fearful of content creation, and everything is content. Period.
When is your busy season?Fall and winter...
What keeps you up at night? The fact that people still don't believe in social media, to me, is unfathomable...
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I've launched a podcast, Pride and Promotion, which is entering its second season very soon. I use that as a community hub to connect with members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. All episodes may be found online. I also expect to grow through community outreach and organically through social media outlets. Being a public figure has its perks; I'm "for the people, by the people."
How involved are you in the community?I host "Pride and Promotion" podcast, host a monthly LGBTQ+ business support group online, and am a part of the board of members on the Morristown Beautiful committee in New Jersey. Community always comes first.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Point Foundation
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? The industry is very saturated; do your homework and launch a very niche business.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Reading, publishing books and hiking...
