Why did you choose your industry?My prior experiences afforded me the opportunity to step back and analyze exactly what motivates me. I harnessed that reflection into my pitch and started calling my network, letting them know I was open for business.
Who are your typical clients?Small to medium sized businesses.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Each of my clients present with unique needs. Therefore, no two days are the same and I enjoy the variety.
What are common problems you see?People wanting to throw a technology solution at a problem before they assess why they have the problem in the first place.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?State your problem and then look left and right. Meaning, be mindful of what is happening BEFORE the problem got to you and AFTER. Nine times out of ten, the scope of truly fixing the issue needs to contemplate the data and workflow both ahead of and behind you.
When is your busy season?I do not experience seasonality.
What keeps you up at night?Major platform releases.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Word of mouth. Specifically by asking my clients to keep me in mind when they’re engaging with their networks and suspect their folks could benefit from my services.
How involved are you in the community?My contribution to community is a functioning, well behaved, high performing human. I have a son in middle school and we’re chasing a big basketball dream focused on hitting certain goals along the way.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Children’s Home Society
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Be prepared for your clients (and potential clients) to want you to solution on the fly. Utilize their push to counter with engaging questions that give them pause. This opens the door for you to truly size the opportunity for them of what they could benefit from by putting you under contract to fix a specific problem or head up a defined initiative.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Being with my family and our dog, writing, Pilates, gardening.
