How long have you been in your industry?15 years
Why did you choose your industry?I was a packaging expert leading packaging plant turnarounds for companies including the Fortune 1000. I wanted to start my own business to help others improve their businesses, accelerate their careers and achieve the work-life balance they dream about. Now, I help people do just that.
Who are your typical clients? Most achievers in the workforce are overburdened by work, and not paid what they are worth. They have difficulties with family, friends, and hobbies due to working too much. My typical clients are achieving managers and executives who wish to accelerate their careers, increase their income, and free up their time for family and fun. Other clients are corporations and attorneys for my other work.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I like the freedom; I get to use my expertise, and it generates a strong income.
What are common problems you see? Most people prioritize their work but still get passed over for promotions. Their family and personal lives suffer due to long work hours, travel, and work commitments.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?I help people find their dream jobs, out-interview their competition to get the job and improve leadership effectiveness and efficiency. Then, I help them set boundaries, delegate better, and free up their time. I then help them set goals in all areas of their lives so they can lead a happy and fulfilled life.
When is your busy season?I am busy all year long.
What keeps you up at night?Launching my new book and group coaching program by the end of February.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Expert Directories, word of mouth, and reputation. For my launch, it will be social media, podcasts, blogs, JV partnerships, funnels, television, radio, and blogs.
How involved are you in the community?I have been on the Board of Directors of the United Way, President of the South Texas Manufacturers Association, on the Advisory board for Paperboard Packaging Magazine, Vice Chair for the American Society for Quality's Customer/Supplier Division, on the TAPPI (Technical Association for the Pulp & Paper Industry) Consulting Council and the IOPP Consultants Council.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?I like the food bank, Unites Way, and many other organizations but my favorite is my church Christ's Church of the Valley in Arizona.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Always have a coach who has done it successfully to save you from the mountain of mistakes and to understand the many details that are involved in the process.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Movies, dancing, off roading, festivals, travel, playing in a rock band.
