This week on Military Affairs and Veterans Department’s (MAVD), 5 Minute Salute , our hosts Steve Strum and Chris Budihas talk to veterans making a difference in their communities. Today, Chris and Steve have the honor to speak with Capt. Rick Hoffman of Orion Solutions, LLC.

Short description of you or your company:
We are a Service Disabled Veteran owned small business that provides training and maintenance services to the US Navy.
I am also the Executive Director for the Jacksonville Area Ship Repair Association. I am the industry rep for interfacing with Navy leadership and interacting with City, State and national political leadership.
What Is Your Why (Why Do You Do What You Do)?:
I served in uniform for nearly 30 years so service is my why.
We take old sailors and put them on the podium in a Navy schoolhouse to train young sailors to employ their weapons systems and sensors to that they can live to become old sailors.
How did you get started in your field or work?: When I retired from the Navy, I was approached by several shipmates from my last ship and they wanted to work together. That was 18 years ago.
What’s one thing we should know that makes you or your company unique?: We have been on the Mayport waterfront for decades. We have watched generations of young people grow, mature, excel and ultimately come to work with us!
What are your biggest goals in the next 6 to 12 Months?:
Continue to support my team as we provide training to the fleet.
Continue my role as mentor to transitioning Naval Officers in Jax.
