On this episode of “5 Minutes With,” our host, Conor Smith, takes the time to speak with an inspiring entrepreneur who is doing great work in our community. In this segment, Conor speaks with Laura Johns of The Business Growers.

The Business Growers helps MSPs and IT companies grow revenue with the strategy, execution, and dedication of an in-house marketing team.

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?

Without a doubt, building The Business Growers from the ground up. I started this agency to serve a specific niche — MSPs, IT, and telecom companies — and we’ve grown into a team of passionate, talented people who genuinely care about helping businesses grow. But more than just revenue or metrics, my greatest accomplishment is creating a company culture where women are empowered, flexibility is prioritized, and values aren’t sacrificed for growth. I’ve hired 18 women in four years, and that legacy means more to me than any single campaign or deal we’ve closed.

How do you define success?

For me, success is doing work that matters with people I care about — and having the freedom to show up fully as a mom, a wife, a leader, and a follower of Christ. It’s about building something sustainable and impactful, not just financially, but relationally and spiritually. If I can look back and say I built something that made people’s lives better — my team, my clients, my family — then that’s success.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over your career?

You can’t control everything, and you shouldn’t try to. The biggest lesson has been learning to let go. Letting go of perfectionism. Letting go of doing everything myself. Letting go of outcomes and instead focusing on what I can control: how I show up, how I lead, and how I treat others. Trusting my team, delegating well, and embracing the “80% done is 100% awesome” mindset has given me freedom and made the business stronger.
