James:
Hi, and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and joining me today is a very special guest—Kathryn McAdam. Kathryn, how are you?

Kathryn:
I’m great, thank you so much. I’m happy to be here.

James:
Thank you so much for joining us, Kathryn. I have one simple question for you today: how are you living your faith?

Kathryn:
I’m living it out loud—by not shying away from sharing my faith and by fully being who I am, which is a lover of Jesus.

James:
There’s no better way to live it than out loud. I love that. We had a chance to talk before this, and I’m really excited for you to share what you do with our audience. Why don’t you walk us through it?

Kathryn:
Sure. I’m a nurse practitioner trained in conventional medicine, but I’m also trained in functional medicine. I went back for additional training because I really wanted to help people get to the root cause of what’s happening in their health.

Unfortunately, in conventional medicine today, we often rely on band-aid solutions—pharmaceuticals or surgeries—that don’t actually allow the body to heal the way God designed it to. My goal is to help people uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface.

My journey is personal. Years ago, I started experiencing serious health issues. I was doing everything I thought was right—I was working out, eating what I believed was healthy—but I was dealing with debilitating fatigue, brain fog, and major digestive issues. It landed me in the emergency room not once, but twice.

Each time, I was told everything looked fine and sent home with no answers. It was incredibly frustrating. Eventually, I came across a woman who was talking about simple lifestyle changes, especially around food. I thought, What do I have to lose? I had no answers and felt terrible.

To my surprise, within a week of making those changes, my symptoms were gone. I also lost eight pounds. I was thrilled—but also frustrated—because at the time, I was an ICU nurse working long hours and going back to school for my master’s degree as a nurse practitioner. None of what helped me was taught in my training. It wasn’t even on the syllabus.

Yet those changes were simple—and from a biblical perspective, they aligned perfectly with what God already tells us about caring for our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit.

That realization changed everything. Now I help my clients bridge faith and functional medicine. I’ve also written a book called The Last Body, which focuses on caring for our bodies the way God intended—without scary diet pills, injections, or a lifetime dependence on pharmaceuticals.

It’s about allowing God to heal our bodies the way they were intelligently designed to heal. When we become good stewards of how God created our bodies to function, healing can take place naturally.

James:
I loved talking with you because it was honestly one of those slap-my-forehead moments. Even for those of us who believe there’s more than just pharmaceuticals—more than popping an Advil for chronic pain—it’s easy to stop short.

We think, Maybe I need to stretch more. Maybe I need to eat better. But then there’s that next layer: I believe in God in every area of my life—so why wouldn’t I invite Him into my lifestyle choices? Not just praying for inflammation to go away, but asking Him how I should be living.

Was there a moment like that for you—where you connected lifestyle and faith in a deeper way?

Kathryn:
Absolutely. In the health space, there are plenty of programs that address the physical—what to eat, how to exercise—and sometimes even mindset. But the spiritual aspect is often missing.

My journey wasn’t a one-time event. I’ve been homeless with my three kids. I’ve walked through trauma. And my healing—true healing—has always been rooted in my faith. Everything I do is filtered through the Word of God.

What I’ve learned, and what science actually supports, is that it doesn’t matter how well you eat, exercise, sleep, or supplement—if your nervous system isn’t at rest, if your spirit isn’t at peace, health will always be just out of reach.

Your nervous system—your spirit—plays a massive role in your health and well-being. Chronic stress, unforgiveness, anger, resentment—these are burdens God never designed us to carry. Scripture even tells us that bitterness rots the bones.

So how can we ignore that? The Bible clearly speaks about health, peace, and wholeness. In 3 John, it says, “I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” You can’t separate the body from the soul.

I’ve seen this work—biblically and clinically. God has promises for those who follow Him and do things His way. That’s truly the foundation of what I do.

James:
Kathryn, I can’t thank you enough for joining us today and sharing this. For those watching, Kathryn’s practice and resources will be linked in the show notes below—please go check them out.

This truly is a pathway to health. It’s not just medication—it’s God. And He will take us there.

Kathryn, thank you so much for sharing how you’re living your faith and how you’re helping people heal in a deeper, more holistic way.

Kathryn:
Absolutely. It was my pleasure.

James:
This has been Living My Faith. Thank you so much for joining us today. I’m James Fenimore, and we’ll see you next time.
