James:
Hi, and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and joining me today is a very special guest—T. Shardé. T. Shardé, how are you?
T. Shardé:
Good morning. I’m doing well—thank you so much for having me today.
James:
Thank you so much for joining me. I have one simple question for you: how are you living your faith?
T. Shardé:
That’s a great question. I live my faith in a variety of ways on a day-to-day basis. In my personal life, I live my faith by giving myself grace as I navigate being a mom of four and a small business owner.
I also live my faith professionally—through my work with clients in my consulting company and by sharing my story with others, especially the challenges I’ve overcome through faith.
One of the main ways I do that is through my keynote speaking. I have a keynote called The Perfect Stranger, where I share a transformational experience from 2021, when I lost my mother to suicide. In that incredibly painful season, I received an overwhelming amount of kindness, compassion, and love from complete strangers.
Those moments gave me the strength and courage to keep going. They showed me hope. They showed me the power of kindness—and what it truly looks like when people choose to show up for one another.
So I live my faith by intentionally showing kindness to others, trusting God, and reminding people that we can overcome hard things when we hold on to faith and extend compassion daily.
James:
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. But it’s clear you’ve taken something incredibly painful and turned it into something that’s bringing good into the world.
T. Shardé:
Thank you. It was definitely one of the hardest seasons of my life. But I truly believe that when we face difficult moments and make it through them, we carry a responsibility to show others what resilience looks like—to model grace, kindness, and compassion.
When we share our stories, it gives others hope. It allows someone to think, “If she can get through this, maybe I can too.” I have the privilege of sharing that journey with people all over the world, and honestly, it’s one of my greatest joys.
James:
If someone is struggling right now, what advice would you give them?
T. Shardé:
I would give two pieces of advice.
First—give yourself grace. Every morning, God gives us a fresh cup of grace, just like a fresh cup of coffee. I truly believe that. This is the first time I’ve been a mom of four. The first time I’ve been a wife for almost 15 years. The first time I’ve done many of the things I’m navigating right now.
God already understands that we’re not perfect. He didn’t come to save us because we are perfect—He came because we’re human and we make mistakes. So please give yourself grace. You may not succeed on the first try, or the second, or the fifteenth, or even the fiftieth—but don’t give up.
Second—share your story. There are people walking through something very similar to what you’ve experienced. Your story—how you overcame something big or small—might be exactly what someone else needs to hear to keep going.
Whether it’s a life-altering loss or even a small parenting win, don’t keep it to yourself. Sharing what you’ve overcome could truly be the thing that changes or even saves someone’s life.
James:
I love that. As we wrap up, I have one final question. How has faith played a role in your willingness to share your story so openly?
T. Shardé:
Faith has played a huge role. Losing my mom to suicide forced me to confront a lot of guilt and questions. I wondered how I didn’t see the signs. How I missed what she was going through.
I had to have faith in myself and allow myself to be vulnerable—to accept that I didn’t know then what I know now. It takes a lot of faith to stand on a stage and openly talk about those moments, about the signs I didn’t recognize, and about the pain that came with that loss.
Even knowing what I missed, I still step onto stages around the world and share what I learned—the power of kindness, and how one small act can change someone’s life. That takes faith. It takes faith to be vulnerable with people you don’t know.
My goal is to help create “perfect strangers”—people who choose kindness without expectation. That’s what I learned through my journey. And I have faith that sharing this message is the right thing to do, and that the words I share will truly transform someone’s life.
So I walk in my faith every single day.
James:
T. Shardé, thank you so much—not only for sharing your story, but for sharing your faith with us today. We truly appreciate you being here.
T. Shardé:
Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate it.
James:
Absolutely. I’m James Fenimore, this has been Living My Faith, and we’ll see you next time.
