How long have you been in your industry?2 Years
Why did you choose your industry?I chose the consulting industry because it allows me to leverage my professional expertise and military experience. After serving 22 years in the Army, I gained invaluable leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills, which I now apply to complex challenges in various sectors. Consulting allows me to draw on my ability to manage large-scale projects, navigate complex situations, and drive organizational change skills I honed during my time in the military.
Who are your typical clients?I work with government agencies, healthcare providers, clean energy organizations, veteran-focused businesses, and private sector companies. My expertise includes project management, policy solutions, operational transformation, and AI integration, helping clients improve efficiency, drive innovation, and achieve their strategic goals across various industries.
What do you like best about being in this industry? The opportunity to make a meaningful impact across diverse sectors. I enjoy solving complex challenges, whether it’s optimizing operations for a healthcare provider or driving sustainability in energy projects. The variety of projects keeps me engaged, and the ability to bring innovative solutions to organizations while continually learning and growing is deeply rewarding.
What are common problems you see?Lack of alignment between stakeholders, unclear project goals, and resistance to change. Many organizations struggle with integrating new technologies or processes, especially when there is insufficient training or communication. Tight project timelines, budget constraints, and shifting priorities can lead to scope creep or project delays.
What advice/tips do you have for clients? My advice for clients is to start by clearly defining project goals and ensuring alignment among all stakeholders. Open, honest communication is key to addressing potential roadblocks early on and managing expectations. Embrace a culture of change by involving key teams in the process and providing them with proper training. Set realistic timelines and budgets and be flexible in adapting to unexpected challenges. Finally, keep an eye on long-term sustainability by thinking beyond the immediate scope of the project and considering its lasting impact on the organization.
When is your busy season?Around the end of Q1 and the beginning of Q4, when clients are finalizing their strategies, budgets, and project scopes.
What keeps you up at night?I often worry about the potential for scope creep or unforeseen challenges that could derail progress. I’m also constantly thinking about how to balance short-term results with long-term sustainability and ensuring that the solutions we provide are truly impactful for the organizations I work with.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I focus on building strong, long-term relationships with clients by consistently delivering high-quality results and providing value beyond the scope of individual projects. Networking is key, so I attend industry events, engage on platforms like LinkedIn, and leverage my veteran status to connect with like-minded professionals and organizations.
How involved are you in the community?I actively participate in veteran-related events and programs, such as those aimed at supporting transitioning service members and advocating for greater involvement of Latino fathers in special education.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Wounded Warrior Project, as a disabled veteran, I deeply resonate with their mission to support veterans, especially those dealing with physical and mental health challenges.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? For veterans transitioning out of the military and looking to enter consulting, leverage your leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. Focus on industries where your military experience aligns, and network with fellow veterans. Be open to learning new tools but remember that your unique background will be a key asset in consulting. Persistence and adaptability are most important
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I enjoy spending time with my family, Wife and three children. We often take short trips to Lake Tahoe or the Bay Area. Currently working on a home project to build an outdoor pavilion with a kitchen.
