How long have you been in your industry?14 years
Why did you choose your industry?I grew up on a lake outside of Gainesville, FL and we would always host friends and family for holidays, etc. Hospitality and events are in my blood and upbrining. It's a joy to help people learn something and enjoy themselves at an event. After 13 years in the events industry, I started a small DJ business and was in my home office searching for the right software to plan events with my clients. I couldn't find one. So I built one myself and launched it earlier this year.
Who are your typical clients?Event Builder serves event planning business owners, HR professionals, and marketing managers who need a seamless way to manage events. Nonprofit leaders use it to organize fundraisers efficiently, while schools rely on it for repeat events like graduations and festivals. By combining budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management in one platform, Event Builder simplifies planning for any company.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Standing face to face with someone is the best way to do business, celebrate, encourage, empathize, and these all happen at events. This software is a tool to help people plan better events, which is something I love doing.
What are common problems you see? Most people planning events will keep notes in one app, tasks on a clipboard or another app, the timeline in Microsoft Word, budget in a spreadsheet, and they are all lost in emails. None of those apps are actually designed FOR events. That's a problem Event Builder is designed to fix.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Stay organized and streamline your workflow. Use one platform instead of juggling multiple tools to manage vendors, budgets, and schedules.Plan with flexibility. Unexpected changes happen—Event Builder’s automated scheduling and budgeting adjustments help you adapt quickly.Collaborate efficiently. Keep your team, vendors, and stakeholders aligned with real-time updates and shared checklists.
What keeps you up at night?Knowing how many people this can help yet how many people I have yet to get it in front of.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?YouTube, SEO, and edutainment centered marketing strategy. I'm a teacher at heart and LOVE giving people tools and knowledge to achieve their goals. A product that is actually helpful and people enjoy using and share with others. I'm entertaining restarting my podcast to interview people who plan and host great events to share their stories.
How involved are you in the community?I lead a mens bible study with my church, volunteer at my daughters school, and serve many businesses and non-profits in the community as a DJ and Emcee.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Compassion International
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Have a great plan and be ready to change it at any minute. Attend other people's events to gain ideas and inspiration. Watch at other peoples events to gain new tools to your toolbelt. Volunteer to start in whichever event type you lean towards.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Spending time with my wife, and playing with my kids. Usually outdoors if we can help it at the beach or in the backyard.
