Redeemer Healing Prayer Ministry
How is your ministry engaging with the community today? We are an outreach to our community and provide healing prayer appointments to people from anywhere in Jacksonville and beyond. We also will provide healing prayer appointments at other locations beyond our church – for example, several of our team travel to Shiloh Ministries in Liberty, TX every year to provide healing prayer appointments to the men in that rehabilitation and discipleship program. We also provide healing prayer ministers to the Slavic Missionary Bible School in Jacksonville a few times per year for their events. We minister at Jax United quarterly, Beaches Rescue and Recovery Mission monthly, Beaches Compassion Night Homeless Ministry monthly, and more.
What role does technology play in spreading your message? The vast majority of our “marketing” is by word of mouth. We do have a link on our church app to request prayer. We outreach within the community because of the relationships with other ministries that we have.
How do you support spiritual growth among your members? We consider ourselves a type of Life Group within our church and regularly meet for training, prayer, encouragement and social time throughout the year in addition to continuously doing ministry together.
What challenges are ministries facing in the modern world? I believe that one of the greatest challenge is to reach out to the community so that people are aware of what you offer without forcing growth that is unnatural.
How do you balance tradition with innovation in worship? Redeemer Church, in particular, balances the three historic streams of the church – Sacramental, Evangelical, and Charismatic – so we have elements of the historic/traditional mixed with elements of the modern/innovative already established. Healing Prayer itself is deeply historic in the church, but then fell out of popularity for many years. So, at the same time as being historic, It is also modern and coming back into the mainstream of the church today.
What initiatives are you leading to serve vulnerable populations? Many of the people who come in for healing prayer are vulnerable in the sense that they are trying to recover from severe traumas. We also have a great desire to continue ministering to the homeless population and addicts. We already have some outreaches set up to provide that to the community, but are looking for additional opportunities.
How can younger generations be more involved in ministry? In our ministry, we specifically require 4 Levels of training in Healing Prayer at Christian Healing Ministries in Jacksonville. People must completes those levels and have a an established relationship with our church to have the opportunity to be vetted for joining our ministry. Because we deal with such private information about people’s lives, we have to adhere to very strict standards. But anyone from a younger generation who meets those criteria would be absolutely welcome to be a part of our ministry. The younger generation as a whole needs to see that they have value in the church and that their participation is welcomed and needed. Our church strives to be inter-generational so that all people feel connected and not isolated in their age group.
