Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and joining me today is a very special guest. Joining me is Clint Kyles. Clint, how are you?
Clint
I’m doing great. James. Good morning. Thanks for the invitation.
James
It’s my pleasure. Clint. We start this show with one simple question. How are you living your faith?
Clint
Well, I am most significantly living out my faith as, a devoted Christian husband, father, and most recently as a newly Christian grandfather. But the reason you probably asked me to join you today is, to discuss my passion project within the Christian podcasting realm.
James
That is. That is definitely how I found out about you, because anybody that’s posted on LinkedIn at All About Christ stands out to me. And, that’s how I discovered you. So why don’t you talk about that a little bit?
Clint
Well, I’m host of the second alt Christian podcast where I seek to bring my fellow Christians into the modern conversation surrounding the topic of psychedelic substances. These are substances we probably all heard of. Things like LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, ibogaine, MDMA, and among a number of others. Although the conversation encompassing mental and spiritual health and psychedelics has been elevated by mainstream sources in the past 5 or 10 years, the conversation concerning psychedelic substances is still a bit taboo.
Clint
And then stigmatized. And so, as a Christian, when I began this, this podcasting journey, I was kind of concerned that, the negative reputation potential for myself and my family because the war on drugs and government policy concerning these substances over the past 50 years, for better or worse, has been very effective at convincing the public to these substances have absolutely no positive use case, and yet all the recent scientific studies have provided substantial evidence that these substances not only effectively treat many debilitating conditions such as depression, PTSD, substance use disorders including tobacco and alcohol, and other dangerous and illegal substances such as OxyContin and fentanyl, which are currently ravaging our nation
Clint
at this time. I’ve even heard many anecdotal stories of people using psychedelics to overcome gambling and pornography addiction. And on top of that, these substances seem to be, more effective than standard medical treatments in many cases. And they most often require only a single dose instead of a lifetime of expensive pharmaceutical regimens. Which, if you’ve known people like I have that, have to access pharmaceuticals to deal with their mental or physical health struggles.
Clint
Oftentimes, these pharmaceuticals come with a broad range of negative side effects, of which psychedelics often do not have. I’m convinced that psychedelic protocols might be best used as a first resort for treating these conditions instead of a last resort. But there are many powerful entities that stand to lose billions of dollars. If these substances were introduced in a medical context.
James
Clint, I don’t know if you’ve talked about this on your podcast or not, but just while you were going through this, it occurred to me that there are people that seek this as a therapeutic and or a medicinal treatment. And I know they go to all sorts of weird places in the world, you know, and in that, unfortunately for them, the only way to get them, it has to be some sort of a religious ritual that they are very far away from God.
James
And Jesus Christ. It is something that is totally not related to to Christ, and that’s the only way they might be able to to to seek out some of these uses for a medicinal way. Not and it has to be some religious ceremony. So I wonder, is that something you’ve explored or would be willing to explore, like, hey, we are actually pushing people that are trying to seek this for PTSD or medicinal use into, you know, other religions hands when we could just be giving it to them as a doctor and letting them seek prayer and seek Christ in the in that, just like we would if it was a normal, you know, a normal

medication that they, that they, that they’re, you know, seeking from a doctor today.
Clint
Right. That’s, that’s a point that I like to bring up frequently, especially when Christians contact me personally. And they’re interested in pursuing this, I encourage any Christian who is interested in exploring the topic of psychedelics to please take their time. Don’t jump on an airplane and head off to a foreign country and enter into a situation where you’re unfamiliar with the language and culture, and commit yourself to the care of a shaman practicing rituals that you don’t understand.
Clint
There are many potential pitfalls in that regard. If you think something like this might be right for you or someone you love, you know, speak to a number of knowledgeable people on the topic. Medical professionals, maybe a spiritual professional. Again, some of those people might not be open to the idea, but but there are people who are objective and also spiritual and medically and scientifically informed who can give you information.
Clint
There’s no need to compromise your spiritual or physical safety to access psychedelics if you really need them. One thing I’ve noticed recently, within the vet military veteran community, which many of these people have been helped exponentially. When all other opportunities to access medical or mental or physical health treatment have failed them. They they’ve had to travel to a foreign country.
Clint
So there are a number of veterans groups that have organized, safe legal opportunities for veterans to access these these substances in a container that’s safe and not spiritually compromising. It’s it’s more of a medical context. Yeah. I hope that answers your question.
James
Absolutely. Does Clint and I know that’s going to answer our audience question, too, because I know some of them are familiar with it. And like some crazy religious ritual. And I wanted to make sure that they knew that there were ways to do this with keeping Christ at the center. I really want to thank you for joining us today, because it’s a really interesting conversation that I think we need to be having today.
