James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and today we’ve got a really special guest for you. Joining me is Douglas Haase. Douglas, how are you?
Douglas:
I’m fantastic. James, how’s your day going?
James:
Oh, it’s going great. Even better now because I love this show. And I love talking to people about how they’re living their faith. And that’s how we start it. So, Douglas, how are you living your faith?
Douglas:
Well, it’s interesting. You know, I’ve known Jesus my entire life, but it wasn’t until I really got the revelation of Galatians 2:20, you know, of dying of self and allowing him to live in me and me in him. And the real tough one for people is, can he live as me? But I’ve been able to, once I understood that verse and he put that understanding in me, I’ve been able to apply that not only to my life, but to my business life also 24/7.
James:
Wow. How do you apply it in your business life? I’d love to hear about that.
Douglas:
Well, I’m in the entertainment business, so Hustle and Entertainment is a company that brings entertainment, iprs, and intellectual properties to brands and to retailers and to businesses to give them some spark and some entertainment pizzazz in their day. So you can imagine working in the entertainment business of music and movies and TV. It’s a challenging world in an environment that is sometimes more secular than sacred.
James:
Yeah, that’s a struggle. Having two little kids, that’s a struggle I have every day. And I come from the entertainment world as well, so I definitely understand what you’re saying on that. But when you find that sweet spot, man, it is so rewarding. So how are you able to kind of thread that needle? Because it really is a tightrope that you have to walk sometimes.
Douglas:
Yeah. I think for me, I always ask people in business and I always ask them in the spiritual side, is it working for you? I think that’s a question we all have to ask ourselves. When I had that revelation, you know, it was a revelation that we know in the Bible when Abraham became Abraham or Saul became Paul. You know, I quit eating out of this tree that we know of the knowledge of good and evil. And I eat out of the tree of life, which is, you know, Jesus.
I guess simply put, I’m more Christ conscious than I am sin conscious these days. You know, my entire vocabulary spiritually with friends and family, as well as in business, changed. Words like righteousness and hope and peace and love and faith all changed for me because I was always trying to instill them in my life real, instead of realizing that those words are a person named Jesus who will instill them into my business and who will instill them into my life.
So words like endure became embrace. And words like relationship, we hear that word a lot spiritually. But there are terrible relationships out there. Even in the Christian world, divorce is at a high level. I’ve changed that to union. So basically, my whole universe has changed because my heart and my mind are being directed by our Father and his Son.
James:
It sounds like the sanctification process did a real good number on you. Usually when you say “did a number on it,” it’s too bad, but the way you’ve changed even the vocabulary you use shows a real change in the posture of your heart.
For those people that are newer to faith, that are just starting this walk, or maybe they’ve come back to Christ after a long time, what kind of advice can you give them on how they can start this process for themselves or continue it?
Douglas:
Well, I think it’s important to get into his word. I mean, I think for a lot of people, getting a home church is important. And then seeking his word and seeking him. I try to find Christ in every situation. You know, he says in the word, have no fear.
Again, I’m not sin conscious. I’m not looking for the bad in the world. I’m not looking for the bad in my business life. I’m not looking for the bad in my personal life. I know that the Father loves me. And I would tell people the Father loves you. He gave us his Son.
And we should stay focused on his love through us. And we know that the Father has the best for us. He has the best life. He has the best path. So give it all over to God and let God do the journey from here on out.
James:
You know, when you say that, it almost reminds me of sports to a degree where when you play scared, you’re going to make a mistake. So if you’re focused on sin and all the bad things, you might be too focused on it that you’re going to slip up. But when you’re playing assertive and you’re playing with confidence and you keep your eyes on God and his goodness and his love and his glory, that’s where the beauty is.
And the sin will take care of itself if your eyes are focused on him. Does that resonate with you?
Douglas:
It does. You know, you’re talking about your children, and I have two children that are older than yours now and grown up. But we sometimes move our children away from things instead of trusting in the Lord. I understand that that’s a tough thing for parents. It’s also a tough thing in the business world for your employees that work for you.
You don’t want them to necessarily be put in some path that challenges them. But I challenge people’s faith and say, you tell me you believe in this Father and this wonderful Son that died at Calvary for us. And now are you going to believe that he has your back, that he has his best for you? That when you are in a storm, as we know, he’s walking with you?
So is that a faith challenge? Yes. And I tell people, you know what? I don’t have that faith to do that. People will say, well, I can’t, you know, it’s tough. I go, yeah, I know it. I can’t do it. But the Jesus in me, Galatians 2:20, if you don’t know that, go read it. The Jesus in me and the Jesus I’m connected to, he can do all things through me.
So why am I trying to do things? As I did in the past when I just knew Jesus, I tried to do everything like imitate Jesus. I’m not imitating Jesus. I’m letting Jesus put his thoughts in my mind and in my heart.
James:
Douglas, I can’t thank you enough for joining us today. This has been such a pleasure. You’ve taught us a lot, and we’ve got a lot to pray on. And Galatians 2:20 is homework for a lot of people right now. I know that. So I really appreciate you joining us today.
Douglas:
Well, thank you. And if anybody wants to see or learn more about my business or myself, come to church with me over at Lakewood Church on San Jose. Or if you’re an online person, join Pastor Robin Michael Beach at the Bridgeway Global Alignment.
Those are two great places that I go religiously when I have time away from business. And again, I stay in that word and I stay in the Lord, and he keeps my crooked roads straight.
James:
Amen. Douglas. And we’re going to have all that information in the show notes, too. So if you didn’t catch that, don’t worry. It’ll be right below this video. But thank you so much, Douglas. And thank you for watching today. I’m James Fenimore. This has been Living My Faith. And we’ll see you next time.
