James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and Living My Faith is a show where we highlight people that are really out there doing kingdom work. Joining me, I’ve got a very special guest for you today, Stephen Scoggins. Stephen, how are you doing?

Stephen:
What’s going on, man? Super excited to be here, dude.

James:
Oh. Thank you. Great time. Oh, thank you so much for joining us, Stephen. It’s such a pleasure to have you here. But, Stephen, we start the show with one simple question. Sure. How are you living your faith?

Stephen:
I’m living my faith by helping high capacity leaders live theirs inside their businesses. I’ve discovered that high capacity leaders really struggle, for a variety of different things. But isolation is probably the number one thing that I see. So one of the things I’m really passionate about right now is taking the lion lamb framework, or what it means to become one part line and one part lamb, into the marketplace and help leaders move from a Saul to a David, so they can lead with exceptional results.

James:
I love what you say. A Saul to a David. And I love a lion and a lamb mentality. That’s incredible. But we said at the beginning it was isolation. And I know as a leader, you know, a leader myself, I know you are people. I sometimes forget that when you’re at the top, there’s really not many peers, especially in your actual company, maybe a networking group or something, or Bible study. But when it comes to the pressures that you’re dealing with there, but because of it being, you know, such an isolating feeling, other people can relate to that. They might not relate to it as a pal, but they relate to the isolating feeling. What would you say to people that do feel isolated in their faith?

Stephen:
I think the first thing I would try to encourage you to do is understand that most of it is coming down into the container. What I mean by that is when you go through life in business, it doesn’t matter if you’re building a company or you’re just an amazing soccer mom or dad, what essentially what you’re doing is your current container is your current infrastructure. And as you begin to elevate from one stair to the next, it’s not totally implausible to think that the group that you surround yourself with in stage one, container one, if you will, won’t somehow migrate to container two, three, and four. And what I’ve discovered is, it’s like every time I’ve had a massive growth span, I’ve gone through a season of being, you know, kind of surrounded by great people, maybe some people that aren’t so great. Some toxic ones are all the way. And then as I raised my own standard and became more authentic in my own, self, essentially what would happen is I would have a falling away of these different friends and family members and coworkers and all the things, and then ultimately, that would take about anywhere from 40, 40 days to anywhere from 40 days to really six months, to really find my footing and understand that my new community was awaiting me.

Stephen:
I also then had to understand that when this falling away happens, it’s vitally important that not only that, we get to focus on ourselves and have a bit of a presence practice with God on a consistent basis, but also be on the lookout for this new community. You know, I’m excited to be with you this year. And part of the reason I love doing this event with Crystal Parker and her team is because I get to put myself in the same room with high capacity leaders, all doing big and great things and just doing that alone. You feel less isolated. So I would say that if you feel isolated right now, I would do two things I want to say, God, what are you doing inside of me? And two, I would be on the lookout for the next community God is putting in front of you.

James:
I think I love what you’re saying there, because I think pruning sometimes is a little scary for a lot of the people we know in our past life. But through that sanctification process, it happens kind of naturally. But I think what you’re saying is even more poignant because sometimes we stop there and then we’re alone. We. Okay? We these relationships shed because we don’t wanna hang out with them anymore, or a lot of times don’t want to hang out with us anymore because they don’t wanna hear about Jesus. They’d rather do the stuff we used to be doing. And I understand that. But that next step of finding that community, and I love that you brought up the SWC for our viewers that don’t know, that’s the US Christian Chamber of Commerce National Convention. It’s coming up here in Orlando. I’m super excited for it. Steve, I know you’re going to be there. What are you most excited for? The conference.

Stephen:
You know what? Again, I’m excited to see the growth. I was a keynote speaker there, two years ago. I was one of the close out speakers. And it’s become an environment that I’m just super, like, grateful to be a part of. Because, again, I’m. You’re setting yourself with world class leaders, and I know about you, but I’m still trying to become a world class leader. And do and do big things for the kingdom. And what I love about it is the way in which they approach the entire endeavor. It’s a very holistic approach, from hitting multiple different angles from the different labs that got set up to the keynote presentations. They have some of the entertainment that they have. But more importantly, it’s really,  really, really driven for the community. And I see a lot of great business leaders and entrepreneurs, ultimately building new relationships and friends. Sometimes it’s the friend that helps you, like, you know, kind of open up a new revenue line nine times out of ten. It’s the new community that you’ve been searching for to get rid of some of the isolation stuff.

Stephen:
And, you know, one of the things I’m also really excited about is I’ll be sharing a little bit about my own journey from, homelessness, to scaling my first company to upwards of nine figures of annual revenue, which has been an important conversation for a lot of different things. And I told them, I said, look, I’ll do it one more time. And I’ll do it because I want people to understand there’s really constraints that prevent leaders from scaling or organizations or teams and or people.

James:
That’s beautiful. And, I know we always have a lot of new first timers or somebody bringing a gas to SWC. So for those people, what kind of advice would you give them when you get there? You know, dive in and talk to people, make connections. What would you tell them?

Stephen:
You know, I think the most important thing I would do, I’ve been really adamant about this. I’m 50 years old and it took me all the way to 48 years old to realize that I had to stop functioning and what I like to refer to as anxious activity. The reason I say that’s important is because I’ve developed a presence practice that allows me to start my day and be present in my day in presence. So here’s how this applies to the conference in general. If you’re coming for the first time, what I want to invite you to do is I want to invite you to unplug from your world, not your internal world, but your external world. I want to invite you to keep your phone off to the side. Put your computer down or at a bare minimum, have a time in the day that you check that stuff and everywhere else you’re present in the moment. Some of those meaningful relationships you’ll ever have, you’ll meet at this event. Some of the most profound content that you need to absorb, you’ll see at this event, some of the most rejuvenating experiences that you’re likely to have are going to be at this event. And as a result, that’s one of the things that we’re trying to really kind of like, nail out and make sure of is that we’re actually doing these types of things to empower the whole area. So come there with an open heart, an open mind, and the ability to shut everything off and enjoy the moment.

James:
Amazing. Jesus says to worry about today, tomorrow is going to worry about itself. So let’s live in practice, right? I mean, we’re going to be around a lot of believers. So let’s actually believe that. I know as a business owner where most of us are still working on that.

Stephen:
Right.

James:
Now. Stephen, I can’t thank you enough for joining me today. It’s been a real pleasure. I want you to know right below this video is going to be all Stephen’s contact information. So if you’re one of those business owners that’s looking to scale and looking to do it with intentional presence, not just the erotics of the world, Stephen’s going to be a place to go. But Stephen, thank you so much for joining me today.

Stephen:
So much to join our prayer service.

James:
All right. God bless. This has been Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore. What a show it’s been. I can’t wait to see you next time.
