About Anodyne MagazineAnodyne (meaning pain relief) Magazine is a biyearly periodical offering an opportunity to voice our experiences to the masses. We exist not only for catharsis, but also progress. With the intersectional contributions featured in our magazine, we hope to change the existing health paradigm. (ISSN 3052-1289)
What differentiates you from the competition? We are the only magazine advocating for FLINTA* health equity worldwide.
What are your top selling services or products that your company offers? We only publish FLINTA* voices and always on the topic of health. We additionally lean heavily into community, both by hosting events and workshops, and by supporting our contributors long after they are published with us.
If you had one message to get across to future customers, what would it be?It's not all in your head, you're not wrong, and you deserve better. The proof is in our pages.
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?Magazine sales. We can't carry overhead as an NGO so it is difficult to consign copies to shops. We are optimistic, however, that the AI revolution is going to shift culture to value print and human-made work, increasing our market share.

What is the core mission of your organization? To advocate for FLINTA* health equity worldwide through storytelling and community action.

How do you measure impact and success in your programs? Community engagement, magazine sales, event attendance. Once we have achieved NGO status, these will shift.

What are your biggest fundraising or outreach challenges? We haven’t yet been able to properly fundraise; we are looking forward to be able to obtain grants, as it will mean we can pay our staff, contributors, and expand our impact.

How do you build long-term relationships with donors and supporters? Primarily through our bimonthly newsletter. We also offer a membership which includes the magazine and entire archive of workshops. Finally, we maintain a Substack chat where our community can directly engage for care and support.

What trends are influencing the nonprofit world today? The economy is certainly a big one. The mass majority of individuals don’t have funds like they used to, as the middle class is dwindling.

Can you share a story that shows your mission in action? We hosted an in person event recently where an attendee shared her sense of loneliness and frustration with her health journey. She naturally felt alone and uncertain she was on the right path. We were able to affirm her experience and provide tools for advocating for herself with her medical team.

What keeps you motivated in this work? I, too, struggle in a healthcare system that does not research women or queer folks, nor does it listen to them. I want better healthcare; so should we all.
