About Operation Honor: Rural SaluteOperation Honor: Rural Salute™ (OHRS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting and empowering veterans, National Guard, Reservists, and their families living in rural America. We focus on bridging the gap between small-town veterans and the resources, community, and opportunities they deserve. Through in-person events, an online resource hub, and employment and entrepreneurship pipelines, OHRS strengthens rural communities by helping veterans access support, build meaningful connections, and find purpose after service — right where they are.
What differentiates you from the competition?Operation Honor: Rural Salute™ is the only nonprofit focused solely on rural veterans, meeting them where they are to connect them with resources, community, and meaningful jobs that strengthen both their families and their hometowns.
What are your top selling services or products that your company offers? Our events, resource hub, and employment pipelines are built specifically for rural veterans — bridging isolation by bringing support, community, and job opportunities directly to them in the small towns where they live.
If you had one message to get across to future customers, what would it be?You’re not forgotten. Operation Honor: Rural Salute™ is here to bring resources, community, and purpose right to your hometown — so you and your family can thrive where you are. You've earned it.
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year? Our biggest challenge is reaching rural veterans who are often offline, hard to reach through traditional marketing, and cautious of new organizations, requiring more grassroots, trust-based outreach on a limited budget.

What is the core mission of your organization? Our core mission is to connect and empower rural veterans, Guard, and Reserve members — and their families — by bringing them the resources, community, and opportunities they deserve, strengthening both their lives and their rural hometowns.

How do you measure impact and success in your programs? We track our impact through event participation, community engagement, and resource access, and we’re committed to refining and expanding our metrics to more clearly show the long-term difference we’re making in rural veterans’ lives.

What are your biggest fundraising or outreach challenges? Our biggest challenges are reaching rural veterans who are often disconnected from traditional communication channels and building trust with communities unfamiliar with our work — all while fundraising with a small (but mighty) team and limited resources.

How do you build long-term relationships with donors and supporters? We’re working to strengthen how we build long-term relationships by improving communication, sharing impact more consistently, and creating meaningful ways for donors and supporters to stay engaged with our mission over time.

What trends are influencing the nonprofit world today?Key trends shaping the nonprofit world today include a growing emphasis on measurable impact and data-driven results, increased demand for digital engagement and storytelling, and a stronger focus on collaboration and community-based solutions to complex challenges.

Can you share a story that shows your mission in action? In 2024, we hosted our first rural veteran event — and three Vietnam veterans separately approached our team to say it was the first time they’d felt supported since coming home from war. In 2025, we grew that event and brought even more resources directly to the field. Multiple veterans shared that they accomplished more at the VA tent in 20 minutes than they had in 20/30 years. That kind of access is life changing. In rural America, those increased benefits can mean stability for a family, support for a farm, or healthcare that was once out of reach.

What keeps you motivated in this work? What keeps me going is watching a veteran’s whole posture change when they realize they’re not forgotten. It’s hearing them say they finally feel supported or seeing them walk away with benefits they’ve waited decades for. That’s when I know we’re not just hosting events; we’re changing what life looks like for veterans and families in rural America.
