About OtterSpace WildlifeHere at OtterSpace, we give sanctuary to animals that have been injured and can not be released back to the wild. We also take in animals that have been born in captivity or have imprinted on humans. Our goal is to provide every resident a spacious enclosure with room to explore and native features as close to natural as we can make them.
What differentiates you from the competition? We are the land of misfit toys. Most zoo's and facilities do not take handicapped or disfigured animals as they are not aesthetically pleasing and do not generate income. The majority of facilities are in it to make a profit, we are not.
What are your top selling services or products that your company offers? We never turn down wildlife in need of a permanent home.
If you had one message to get across to future customers, what would it be?Your support of our cause is sometimes the only thing between the life and death of a sentient being. No board member is paid from your donations, it goes 100% to supporting our operation, not many non-profits can say that.
What is the biggest marketing challenge that you will face in the upcoming year?Fund raising to support our facility and the ability to assist more wildlife/animals in need.

What is the core mission of your organization? Providing a safe environment for wildlife in need.

How do you measure impact and success in your programs? The way our animals are comfortable and cared for. The responses from people who visit and see the environment and hear what our residence went through or came from.

What are your biggest fundraising or outreach challenges? Self supporting and funds for growth and improvement

How do you build long-term relationships with donors and supporters? Through animal sponsorship. Letting them see where their funds are going and the impact they have on even one small life.

What trends are influencing the nonprofit world today? Cost of living impacts peoples ability to give and we understand that. The cost of food is a huge impact overall.

Can you share a story that shows your mission in action? We recently assisted in the rescue of 502 fox from a fur farm in MN, assisting Sav-A-Fox by taking in a large number of them. We have almost 100 fox here permanently as our part of the rescue. We have a total of 125 fox on site, which makes us one of the biggest fox facilities of our kind in the country. These fox were raised for their pelts and lived in small cramped elevated wire cages, never touching the ground in any way their entire lives. Here they have large outdoor enclosures where they can dig and run and be as close to free as possible. We get asked why they cannot be turned loose. They are generations born in captivity and have no idea how to hunt or live in the wild. They have no fear instincts of danger or threats and would die horrible deaths. Florida law prohibits captive born wildlife from being released due to numerous reasons.

What keeps you motivated in this work? Being able to see animals live a healthy life where they would not get it otherwise.
