How long have you been in your industry?30+ years
Why did you choose your industry?Originally it was a family business and I started here to help my father. However after a few years I found the industry very interesting and grew to enjoy the problem solving aspects as well as meeting lots of new people.
Who are your typical clients?Restaurants and Contractors. Business owners with revenues from 2-60 million dollars. I also do a good bit of work with Environmentally sensitive industries: Waste Companies; Landfills; Sewer and septic; Remediation Contractors........
What do you like best about being in this industry?I like to see people grow their dream......and we go along with them as we help manage their program over the years. It's like we experience that fulfillment of their dream right along with them.
What are common problems you see?Insurance and Risk Management don't get the same level of respect as Attorneys and Accountants however the job we do for the client is just as important. People don't tend to pay much attention to their program until it's literally too late......and then it's a huge problem.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Get familiar with your program NOW. Work with a knowledgeable and trusted advisor. Look for initials like CIC or AAI after their name. You will know they've made a commitment to furthering themselves in their industry.
When is your busy season?Usually 60-90 days before January 1st.
What keeps you up at night? The current Property Insurance crisis in Florida
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I am active in trade associations and speak at meetings around the country. I am also active in Non-profits throughout the area.
How involved are you in the community? My family goes back over 4 generations in NE Florida so we have some substantial roots. I enjoy working with organizations like HEAL and their annual Autistic Surf Camp; Also Special Olympics and Cystic Fibrosis.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Autistic Surf Camp is so incredible! The pure joy on those kids' faces!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Have a thick skin.Hone your craft. Dedicate yourself to knowing your industry. Get a CIC or AAI designation. Follow your passion......If you love Golf then maybe focus on Country Clubs and related industries.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I enjoy being outside with friends. Surfing; fishing; pickleball; hiking......
