How long have you been in your industry?13 years
Why did you choose your industry?I am an enthusiastic STEM teacher dedicated to fostering a love of learning and problem-solving skills for future success. Witnessing the moment when students grasp a concept after persistent effort is truly rewarding. I have a strong interest in engineering, 3D design, simple machines, how AI works, and topics related to flight and space. I take great pride in sharing these interests with my students. I also enjoy leading after school activities such as coding, robotics, and drone soccer club.
Who are your typical clients? My students, aged 10-13, are my primary focus. I strive to provide them with the highest quality education. I ensure that my classroom is a welcoming space where students feel at ease sharing their thoughts and ideas.
What do you like best about being in this industry? The best thing about being a teacher is the opportunity to make a positive impact on students' lives. I enjoy observing my student's growth, curiosity, and moments of discovery. I also get to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians as well as create my own supportive environment for students.
What are common problems you see?The biggest challenge of teaching middle school is that our students are going through many personal changes with puberty. These changes cause a lot of emotional and social issues that impact mental health and learning. As a result, I often find myself not just a teacher, but also a mentor and trusted figure for the students to go to for advice and support.
When is your busy season?August to June
What keeps you up at night?I sometimes worry about my students and their home life. Are they getting their needs and support met?
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I like to get involved in various professional development opportunities. I seek webinars, conferences, and join groups that assist with multilingual learners, how to properly use AI with students, new technology tools, and STEM challenges.
How involved are you in the community?I also work for Coco Coders where I teach virtual coding classes. I work at an establishment in my community to talk to those who live around me and get to know them. I also work for my friend's food truck in the summer time.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?walking my dog, cooking a new recipe, barbecuing outside, reading a book by Freida McFadden or Colleen Hoover, playing games with friends
