Why did you choose your industry?At SVdP Waukesha, we believe in going beyond immediate assistance. At SVdP Waukesha, we are committed to addressing the root causes of poverty, rather than just Our mission is to address the systemic barriers that trap individuals and families into poverty, such as the lack of affordable housing. We operate three thrift stores and recycling operations that not only fund our charitable initiatives but also provide affordable shopping options and employment opportunities for entry-level workers.
Who are your typical clients?We serve our neighbors in need of all creeds and colors. Many approach us because they are in a financial crisis. We provide immediate short-term direct support.
What do you like best about being in this industry?The best part is working for an organization that cares deeply about the people we support and is guided by principles rooted in Faith.
What are common problems you see?Like all organizations, the rising cost of living affects all aspects of our operations and more importantly, has increased the needs in the community. The cost of housing has become a real obstacle to many people.
When is your busy season?October-December
What keeps you up at night?It seems the rate of change and risk are rising exponentially.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I believe in sharing the mission of our organization. It is the "star" of the show. My job is to give that mission, the people we support and our Vincentian volunteers a voice in the community.
How involved are you in the community?I am active in my local parish, serve on a city commission, and am a habitual networker. I love connecting people who can learn and grow from one another.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?St. Vincent De Paul
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?If you want to enter into a nonprofit, you have to the compassion with an eye toward best business practices. When you put both together, it is a powerful combination.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Time with family, reading and college basketball.
