How long have you been in your industry?17 years
Why did you choose your industry?As a speech pathologist, I owned a private practice for speech, occupational and physical therapy for children. I was approached to provide on-site therapists to schools in 2012 and we began serving our first schools that year. This part of my business grew quickly and in 2017, I separated the business into two businesses. The educational side of speech-pathology chose me. It is amazing to serve students and see them grow.
Who are your typical clients?Our primary client is a school choosing us to provide their speech, occupational, and physical therapy services. Once a school chooses us, any student who receives our services is our client we serve directly.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love seeing students grow and seeing therapists grow as therapists. Watching a student be able to communicate well is our highest goal. On the business side, placing a therapist in the right school for them helps them love their jobs and as a result students make faster progress.
What are common problems you see?Speech-Language Pathologists are at a critical shortage in every area and finding therapists is our largest problem. As a result, in this industry, students going without services because of the shortage is the most heartbreaking problem as the students miss out on needed services and potential growth in critical ages.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?We serve many amazing schools and I would continue to encourage them to pursue excellent services for their students in all areas.
When is your busy season?Spring to fall
What keeps you up at night?Not being able to find a therapist to serve a school or having a therapist who does not have the right school placement.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Word of mouth is the best marketing in the world. We encourage therapists to share their experiences with other therapists. School staff and administrators also share our information and we add new schools as a result. This is a high compliment.We use Facebook, Instagram, Linked In to share about Florida Kids, post openings, and share fun insights.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Okoa Refuge in Uganda
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?spending time on the beach with my family
