Why did you choose your industry?Restoring Mathematics LLC came about because of a perceived need for teacher support specifically in the area of mathematics in classical and Christian schools. Classical schools (both private and public charters) are booming, having increased by 700% in the past decade. Despite this growth there is a little agreement on the hallmarks of a distinctly classical math education.
Who are your typical clients?Classical and Christian schools
What do you like best about being in this industry?I like getting the opportunity to work with teachers to hone their craft. Classical schools tend to devote time and resources to their humanities programs, focusing on great books and classroom discussion. Math teachers at these schools often feel left out of the conversation. I enjoy helping math teachers see how vital their work is to the endeavor of classical education.
What are common problems you see?Classical schools tend to focus on shaping their humanities programs to be distinctly classical while having the mindset that "math is just math" and largely keeping the curriculum the same as can be found at any other school. In reality math is foundational to the classical tradition and vital to an appropriate appreciation of the liberal arts. Math is for everyone - not just STEM majors.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Word of mouth through industry contacts. We speak often at conferences and meet clients this way. We advertise through our website as well.
