How long have you been in your industry?4
Why did you choose your industry?I have always had a passion for time management and productivity. As I am drawing closer to retirement, I realized I really didn’t think about how I was going to spend my time post-career. Therefore, through my own journey to understand retirement life, I created a system to help others create their post-career life.
Who are your typical clients?My typical clients are business professionals who see retirement on the horizon. I help them create a post-career lifestyle strategy of fulfillment, contentment, and joy. I also work with financial professionals, HR and benefits administrators to create retirement lifestyle strategies for their clients and employees.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I am my client, so while I get to help people craft a lifestyle strategy, each client also teaches me how I can take their strengths and help make myself better.
What are common problems you see?The common problems I see is that people are so focused on the financial aspect of retirement (which is necessary), but they do little or no lifestyle planning to truly understand how to make use of their savings and investments. I also see where financial advisors and wealth managers do not go deep enough with their clients on a personal level to help them truly use their retirement nest egg to its fullest.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Those who are trying to understand their lifestyle in retirement need to focus on six categories.1. Career Mindset. How important is your career and how will you manage life when that goes away?2. Time Management. Just because you manage time well now, does not mean that will happen post-career. In addition, if you do not manage time well now, that will only add to your challenges in retirement.3. Retirement Mindset. Are you ready for your new life and what do you need to prepare to get ready?4. Financial Mindset. Do you believe and have a realistic attitude about your long-term financial portfolio.5. Anticipated lifestyle. What are you going to do to stay engaged with family, friends, and community when your social network decreases by 50% when you enter post-career life?6. Planned Activities. What are you going to go and when are you going to do it that makes the most of retirement?
When is your busy season?My busy season is spring and then fall. The spring because people are thinking about the time they want to retire in the future and the fall because they are usually retiring at the end of the year and need to figure their life out.
What keeps you up at night?Right now, nothing. I love what I do and enjoy finding the flexibility in life I teach to my clients.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I focus my efforts on LinkedIn and target my ideal client there. I also am reaching out to financial advisors and financial services providers to see about partnering with them to help their clients.
How involved are you in the community?I volunteer at Memorial Presbyterian Church in St. Augustine and sit on the board of a not for profit called Diakonos Solutions
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Diakonos Solutions
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Retirement lifestyle planning is about listening and helping the client come to their own solutions or strategy. You are there to ask the right questions.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Learning to be more spontaneous and visit more family and friends.
