How long have you been in your industry?30
Why did you choose your industry?Higher education has always been a passion of mine. I honestly believe it chose me, especially since I started as a financial aid counselor. Learning how to process f/a has afforded me the opportunity to carve my own niche in higher ed.
Who are your typical clients?I service all students within the School of Health Sciences. These are students who want to pursue a career in the health professions.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love being able to help students succeed. I also teach within the school so I am able to guide students as a faculty member. Additionally, this helps me relate to our faculty when they share issues regarding students.
What are common problems you see?Some common problems have been the lack of preparation for higher education. Many students presume their educational experiences in higher ed would be similar to their time in high school. They often can't handle the expectations and workload of higher education.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Try to enroll into a summer bridge program if it is offered to you, and community college is a good option for some students.
