How long have you been in your industry?25
Why did you choose your industry? My dad, a self-employed insurance agent and musician, inspired my career. He encouraged me to take the insurance exam in college. After failing by one question, I persisted and passed. Working with him taught me the basics, and my degree plus license made me a top candidate when Chase Manhattan Bank launched an insurance agency—leading to my hire as their sixth employee.
Who are your typical clients? Our clients span the range of a health benefits business, employers, government entities, individual consumers, Medicare beneficiaries and Medicaid beneficiaries.
What do you like best about being in this industry? For me, it's all about the core belief that we must create better experiences. Whether it's for our customers, regulators, medical providers, or our own workforce, prioritizing positive experiences is key to achieving better outcomes. Experience and relationship building has to be at the core of what we do. That's my driving force.
What are common problems you see? There are many challenges in our industry. Ranging in the broad categories of access to care, affordability, and the overall experience with the intersection of healthcare delivery and financing.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Focus on their experience.
When is your busy season? It varies depending on the segment, but there is a lot of overlap in the fourth quarter.
What keeps you up at night?Access to care, affordability, and the overall experience with the intersection of healthcare delivery and financing.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?Relationship building is key.
How involved are you in the community? We support many community benefit organizations, especially those improving access to care and addressing inequities. I admire food banks for tackling issues like food insecurity and workforce development. I also value creative solutions, like Delaware library kiosks that offer virtual healthcare access.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity? We support many community benefit organizations, especially those improving access to care and addressing inequities. I admire food banks for tackling issues like food insecurity and workforce development. I also value creative solutions, like Delaware library kiosks that offer virtual healthcare access.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Focus on your “why”. Make sure that your purpose for coming into this industry connects with your personal why.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I spend too much time intaking sugar- I have a ridiculous sweet tooth.
