How long have you been in your industry?30 +
Why did you choose your industry?I cut my teeth out of college starting in the restaurant industry for Arby's as a staff accountant. I enjoy the service component of the job and mostly the franchising side of the business, helping people's dreams come true as a business owner. THIS is what gets me up in the morning.
Who are your typical clients?I started my own consulting business where I love to help grow businesses. I don't target any one industry as growth strategies are the same for young hungry brands.
What do you like best about being in this industry? As mentioned above, helping people fulfill their dreams of being a business owner.
What are common problems you see?The restaurant industry is no different than any of the other service brands. Common challenges with commodity pricing, labor shortages, competition and such. BUT these challenges are not new and they change with the economy.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Stay hungry and focused on the mission. it is easy to get distracted, but once the business strategy is formed, continue to push to your goals.
When is your busy season?Based on the needs of my clients. Being busy is a state of mind.
What keeps you up at night?Nothing as long as I follow my own plan.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? With being in the industry for so many years in high profile positions, I have come to know many fine people. I also market through social business channels and my website, www.bgs-cfo.com.
How involved are you in the community? With growing any business, job creation is huge for all cities and towns. Frankly, there is nothing more important than supplying jobs in the market place. Throughout my career, I have help to create thousands of city, state and national jobs.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and Goodwill Industries.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? The discovery process when vetting an opportunity is key and WILL help direct you. Businesses look fun from the customer side of the counter, but being a business owner is hard work. Identify your interesting business target, set your plan and stick to the mission.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? All about the family and help shepherd my children to bright futures.
