James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and today we’ve got a really great show for you. Joining me, we have two very special guests. First, we have Dusty Davis. Second, Jodi Cunningham. Guys, how are you doing today?
Jodi:
Good. Great. Nice to see you.
James:
Thank you so much for joining me. Jodi, I’d like to start with you, and we start with one simple question. How are you living in your faith?
Jodi:
Well, I became a believer at five years old. And so going backwards right now, I’m actually in Las Vegas. I have a small ministry here just helping the people around me. I also do some venture capital that actually helps other people. Also, I have a book called Estrangement Healing for Mothers and Daughters, and I’ve done a TEDx talk on it. I have a master’s in theology, and I just keep chasing Jesus.
James:
That’s beautiful. Jodi, I love that, and I love what you’re doing for mothers and daughters. I’m also a Christian counselor, and I know how hard it is for some of the adult children today and their parents and just keeping them together. So God bless you. Dusty, spoiler alert, you’re getting the same question. How are you living your faith?
Dusty:
Yeah, living out my faith has looked different in different seasons. After graduating college, I spent about 15 years in corporate national sales. And as a believer, as a follower of Jesus, kind of living out my faith in the corporate world. And about ten years ago, God called my family and I into full time ministry. And really my ministry, living out my faith is first at home. I’ve been married for 23 years to a woman I had no business marrying. I praised God and she said yes. And we’ve got four kids. We’re in that kids transitioning to adult ministry stage. So really, that feels like the greatest arena for living out my faith.
But I’m also privileged to work for Everyman Ministries, which is a national discipling, equipping and sending organization to help build strong, healthy, godly men to lead families and to lead our country, to lead this world. It’s been incredible.
James:
I love that, Dusty, and family is probably the best thing. Raising kids and building a family is our first ministry, right? But can you speak a little bit about what Everyman Ministries is?
Dusty:
Yeah. So about 25 years ago, our founder, Kenny Luck, felt God calling him into a ministry that mimics the heart of Colossians 1:28. We proclaim Him, teaching every man and admonishing every man to present every man perfect in Christ. And what’s great is Kenny, our founder, also has corporate experience. He led a large health care company for a long time before God called him in.
So we really relate to every guy. Our ministry has never changed its mission, but the expression of it has changed constantly over 25 years. Currently, we minister in prisons. We partner with God Behind Bars. We partner with a couple tablet providers to provide our discipleship curriculum. Last year we saw over 2,000 guys give their lives to Jesus as a result of encountering our curriculum.
We do international ministry through content partners like Bible.com and RightNow Media. We provide a lot of discipleship content. We minister in partnership with churches. A lot of churches don’t have the capacity to minister to their men in meaningful ways, so we come alongside them, whether in person at conferences or providing programs like our Get Healthy program, which takes guys from the starting block into strength as a leader in the home and as a servant to his wife and kids.
That’s what we’re all about—discipling, equipping, sending men. We want to watch men be transformed, set on fire by the Holy Spirit, and impact the kingdom wherever God has placed them.
James:
Wow. It’s really impressive. It sounds like you and the organization have this knowledge of business and have used it for the kingdom. Jodi, it sounds like you’re doing the same. You’ve got education and business acumen and are using it for your faith. Can you speak to that a little bit?
Jodi:
Because I became a believer at such a young age, I’ve always consciously understood that the Holy Spirit, God the Father, and the Son care about what I’m doing right now—even right now while we’re on this podcast. This moment matters to the Lord.
At a very young age, I knew that as I lived my life, I have Christ with me. A year ago, I did a preach-off in one of my venture capital businesses. That turned out well. Recently, I’ve been helping a Ukrainian war veteran here in America. You just don’t know what your faith is going to look like.
I was married for 33 years. Covid exposed a lot of things, and my children and I and my ex-husband went our separate ways. Thank goodness my daughter is back. Your ups and downs are part of your ministry, and work is also.
There’s a lot of talk about using business for the kingdom of God, but there’s still that draw to master money versus letting money master you. I see that clearly as a single woman. But again, it’s about what God wants us to do in the moment. Wisdom gives a covering and life. As you walk your faith in business and at home, during ups and downs, there’s always that drawing of the Holy Spirit.
James:
That’s beautiful. This is about living out your faith, and you both are showing it in so many ways. If there’s one piece of advice you could give people to live out their faith daily—at work or at home—what would it be? Dusty?
Dusty:
I love what Jodi said—every moment matters. If God’s hope is to take the gospel to every person around the world, then it makes sense that God wants to be in boardrooms and operating rooms, classrooms, courtrooms. God has placed you somewhere in a community and company.
Ministry belongs to all of us. It’s the priesthood of all believers. The most powerful conversations happen between two people doing life together. God is drawing people to Himself, and He wants to involve you.
It’s making yourself available. Get up in the morning and pray, “Lord, show me what you’re up to.” Be in tune with the Holy Spirit.
My 18-year-old son works at a restaurant. God prompted him to pray for someone. He obeyed. The man, a business leader, said he needed prayer. My son prayed for peace and wisdom. He came home amazed that God would speak to him in that little restaurant.
God moves in everyday interactions. Just be open.
James:
The flesh isn’t going to make someone pray for a guy with a Lamborghini. You’ve got to be open to the Spirit. Jodi?
Jodi:
Dusty, I appreciate that. My whole life has been like that—God asking me to pray for people right then and there. The Holy Spirit is doing all things through us.
For Christians in business, even among other Christians, there are moments where you’ll hear something said in a boardroom that Jesus wouldn’t say or do. If you’re in that position, agree with the Lord whether you keep your job or not. Eternity is most important.
My father passed away in 2020. He made a lot of money, but that didn’t go with him. The only thing that went with him was the love of God. Keep your intention focused on who God is in you.
James:
This has been Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and we’ll see you next time.
