Short company description:

Online and in-person ministry dedicated to help people think, pray, and love like Jesus.

Can you share a moment or experience that significantly deepened or shaped your faith journey?

Conducting weekly Bible study in a Federal Prison since 2008 has transformed my life, opened up new possibilities for ministering to people all over the world, and deepened my faith.

In what ways do you actively live out your faith in your daily life — at work, home, or in your community?

I strive to turn to God each day for inspiration, guidance, protection, and healing. I look for opportunities to express love for my neighbor. I produce a weekly podcast and conduct a prison ministry to offer a cup of cold water in Christ’s name to those who are searching for God’s love and help.

What encouragement or scripture has been especially meaningful to you in this season, and why?

1 Corinthians 2:16 “we have the mind of Christ.” This is in the present tense, not future tense. Since we DO have the mind of Christ, we need to act like it. We can embrace the mind of Christ as our own and think, pray, and love like Jesus. I strive for this myself and encourage others to do the same.

What advice would you give to someone who’s struggling to live out their faith or looking to grow spiritually?

Make a commitment to talk to God each day and write down your conversation with Him in a journal. If you don’t hear His voice right away, that’s okay, just write down what you want to say to Him and the questions you have, like you’re writing a letter to God. Just be yourself, open and honest. Along with that I suggest you read the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew, Chapters 5, 6, and 7. Make a list of everything Jesus says to do and then pick out some of those things and do your best to do them. Then add more of those things to your “to do” list.

James Fenimore
Hi, and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and today we’ve got a very special guest. Joining me today is James Early. James, how are you?

James Early
Good. I’m very good, James.

James Early
It’s really great to be here.

James Fenimore
I know this might get a little confusing — I’m James, you’re James — but we’ll figure it out along the way.

James Early
Hey, it’s a good name.

James Fenimore
I love it. How are you living your faith, James?

James Early
Well, that’s a really wonderful question.

James Early
Some days are better than others, but the real thing I try to focus on is just following Jesus.

James Early
I’m really tired of all the theological debates. We could all be wrong, and nobody wants to admit that they might be wrong theologically. Some people love to debate that, and I’m really tired of it.

James Early
My goal for myself and the people I work with — on my podcasts, coaching, and everything — is to help someone embrace the way Jesus thought, the way he prayed, and the way he loved people.

James Early
For me, I try to focus on what Jesus asked me to do and how he asked me to live my life. That’s what I focus on.

How do you forgive someone? How do you love your neighbor as yourself? How do you love your enemies? That’s kind of tough sometimes. And what does that look like on a day-to-day basis?

James Early
The people I meet, I try to be loving and helpful, that sort of thing. But I also think it’s important to reach out and help others.

James Early
I have a prison ministry. Every week I go to the Danbury, Connecticut Federal Correctional Institution. I do a weekly Bible study there, and I’ve been doing that since 2008.

It’s wonderful to share your faith and help others grow in their faith. I think that’s part of what our faith is — to let your light shine and bless other people.

James Fenimore
It sounds like you’re living your faith personally, professionally, and through charitable work like this prison ministry. How did you decide to take the jump and do this professionally as well?

James Early
Oh, I love that question.

James Early
Back in 2008, when I started doing the Bible study at the prison, I’d always loved the Bible. But when you start sharing your ideas and teaching others — or really facilitating conversations and encouraging people — I found my voice in talking about the Bible.

People would come up to me in the prison Bible class and say, “Mr. Earley, you’ve changed my life. You’ve restored my faith.” That’s why I started the podcast.

James Early
My podcast is called The Bible Speaks to You, and I’d love for anyone listening to check it out. After two or three years, I realized I was having listeners all over the world.

James Early
As of now, I’ve had listeners in 208 countries and territories over the six years I’ve been doing the podcast. People found it helpful, so I started making a business out of it — coaching, speaking, live and online workshops, and now I’m working on some books — just trying to get helpful ideas out there.

James Fenimore
I love that. With your podcast, can you tell us more specifically what makes it so impactful and successful?

James Early
Thank you, James. My focus is to help people think, pray, and love like Jesus.

That might sound out of reach — you might think, “I could never love the way Jesus did.” But I would kindly disagree.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:16, “We have the mind of Christ.” It’s not future tense — we have the mind of Christ.

James Early
Jesus wanted us to follow his example — to love people the way he did, act like he did, and treat people that way. My whole focus is helping people think like Jesus did and give themselves permission to realize, “Oh yeah, I can do this.”

God gave us that ability. It’s already there — part of who we are. You just discover it one step at a time, one thought at a time.

We used to say, “What would Jesus do?” I like to say, “What would Jesus think? How would Jesus love?” That’s the compass and guide for my podcast.

James Fenimore
That’s really wonderful. It gives so much confidence to know that we can do this, as long as we try and put our heart into it.

James Early
It takes practice. It’s not an overnight success. One step at a time. It takes desire, and it takes admitting that it’s possible.

James Fenimore
Before we wrap up, do you have any tips for viewers on how to live their faith?

James Early
The most important thing I’d say is to go to the Sermon on the Mount — Matthew chapters 5, 6, and 7.

Read all three chapters. Make a list of everything Jesus says to do — how to treat people, how to love, how to act. Then make a conscious effort to live that way.

I’ve found that the more I actually follow Jesus, the more my faith grows and the more it helps others too.

James Fenimore
That’s wonderful advice. Thank you so much for joining us today.

James Early
Thank you. If anyone wants to connect with me, go to thebiblespeakstoyou.com/living. I made a special landing page just for your listeners.

James Fenimore
That’s amazing. We’ll link it below. Thank you so much, James.

James Early
Thank you.
