How long have you been in your industry?3 years
Why did you choose your industry?After giving 10 years of my life to the Florida Department of Corrections, I witnessed first hand the damage being a felon can cause. I needed to reduce the learning curve for the 600,000 men and women who are released from prison each and every year.
Who are your typical clients?Reentry centers, Reentry programs, prison systems, criminal justice organizations, returning citizens, and justice involved individuals.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I get to instill hope in individuals that have had it snatched away. I get to show them what is possible after prison, I get to show them me. People can not be what they can not see.
What are common problems you see?Far too often I see individuals released from prison with no support system and no plan. They don't have the tools to make it on the outside so therefore they recidivate.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?90% of those released from confinement want to succeed, they just need the proper tools.
When is your busy season?Year round.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I'm very active on LinkedIn where I share my story as well as the statistics around the criminal justice and prison system as well as parole and probation. I educate those who don't know why they should care.
How involved are you in the community?Very. I speak about the Second Sentence Returning Citizens face everyday anywhere I can to anyone who will listen.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Operation New Hope
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Know your facts and don't give false hope.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I love going to the beach, going to the gym and writing.
