How long have you been in your industry?30+ years
Why did you choose your industry?I’ve run four companies myself. I know the difficulties of growing a company into a nine figure company from scratch. We love serving privately, held businesses and their owners to help them save money, make money, stay out of trouble, and have fun.
Who are your typical clients?Privately held businesses and their owners ranging from $5 million in annual sales to $1 billion.
What do you like best about being in this industry?Sing companies and their teams get healthy and have fun doing what they do while they let us take much of the tax and business growth challenges off of their plate.
What are common problems you see?Too many firms are set in their ways. It’s good for us, because we like being disruptive and pride ourselves on being responsive as well as proactive in strategic guidance.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Do your due diligence, spend the money, and get a trusted CPA for firm by your side that can grow with you and work as a partner, versus vendor.
When is your busy season?Jan thru May Is especially busy, but we haven’t seen a slowdown since we went into lockdown in 2020.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? We started a podcast almost 5 years ago called the Anything But Typical podcast. We’re quite active on social media being authentically ourselves. We have been doing live Q&A webinars for free since the first week of lockdown in 2020 and we well into the 200s in our episodes.
How involved are you in the community?Probably my most impactful activities in the community are connecting good people to good people and telling their stories via the Anything But Typical podcast.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?I’m a big fan of many. Samaritans Feet & Dream on 3 were started and run by friends of mine. I’m a huge fan of both of those.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Know your “why.” Make sure that is clear, have enough runway for it to be lean in the beginning, be super picky about who your clients are as well as the kind of people you employ.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Writing, speaking about imposter syndrome, exercising, and being with my wife, children, and grandchildren
